BS: YouTube Gems

13 Dec 10 - 02:00 PM (#3052626)
Subject: BS: You Tube Gems
From: gnu

Every now and then, you find one. Often by "mistake". I don't mean one you can easily search like funny cats or fancy cars or whatever.

I would like people to post there finds with a brief desciption so readers can filter them. I'll start...

1951. Larry Griswold. Comic acrobat here.

Thanks Beer... loved it!

Jimmy Fallon does a spot on take off on Neil Young and is joined by Bruce Springsteen, decked out as a 1970s era Bruce Springsteen, performing a silly little ditty penned by Willow Smith, the ten year old daughter of Will Smith, called Whip My Hair - great fun.

Subject: RE: BS: You Tube Gems

When Fallon first started I wondered how he got the job. Must have been nerves because if he give's up some of the childish bits he does, especially the audience and guest "contests" and sucking up to guests, he'll be king of latenight in NA.

I wondered whether Larry Griswald from the original post might have 'burnt up' an act in one television broadcast that he had spent years perfecting and could have toured with for years. Fortunately, Wikipedia shows that he managed to keep going for a couple of decades afterwards.

It is simple and fun to make movies with this site (thank Will Fly). http://www.xtranormal.com/index

Just select your characters, add in dialogue. You can copy and past stuff into the dialogue boxes.

Would be great to make a get well movie for old Spaw.

Of course, if anyone finds the cutest kitten in the world, alert the media immediately. I don't go to YT everyday and type in "world's cutest kitten" because I suppose the vid would be on "most watched" and show it had a billion hits and I would click on it.

Yes, I know I sound like a crotchety old man. What's yer point?

This clip I find to be a real gem ... it's some interviews with B-17 crews after the first U.S. air raid over Germany ... in it is "Old Iron Pants" Curtis Lemay, a colonel at this time in history ... you'll see the contrast between brit officers and their counterpart Americans ... then there is the character with the cigar ... what amazes me are the young faces, so full of swagger and confidence.

The acoustics alone blew me away! Imagine that quality in the Roman Colisseum....built 70 - 80 AD.

Beautiful rendition by Il Divo in the ancient arena where Christians were once tortured and thrown to wild animals
and gladiators fought to the death.

Wait for the bagpiper.
The above i cut and pasted from an e-mail I received.

Every now and then, you find one. Often by "mistake". I don't mean one you can easily search like funny cats or fancy cars or whatever.

I would like people to post their {yes, I did edit that typo} finds with a brief desciption so readers can filter them. I'll start...

1951. Larry Griswold. Comic acrobat here.

Thanks Beer... loved it!

Sorry if I offend anyone in any way, but this is about gems you trip over and not about cool vids that can be searched... there are millions that can be searched. They just ain't "gems".

You puzzle me Gnu? What an odd statement and definition. One can search and find everything on the internet that was posted here, if you have the time (and skill) to look for it? If it is harder to find does that alone make it a gem? If you can't find it at all would be even more of a gem? But, nobody could see it? Maybe you should consider titling the thread "harder to find stuff on the internet?

This should be shown to school children along with an explanation that the rich subjugate the poor (yeah, I know... quit sayin that over and over again). My father, as a Canuck military officer, witnessed a demonstration by this man of how he could deliver electrical power through the ground without "conventional" transmission lines. Some classic Lale Andersen for those interested in songs popular in Germany in WW2 and following decade. I started by recording several from youtube, then ended up buying every compilation of her songs that I could find. Also a sucker for Vera Lynn, and others of the WW2 era.

Some fine Django Rinehardt, esp. Nuages.

Elvis Presley backstage rehearsal, 1972 (2 1/2 minute clip). I've always liked the song they're doing here, "Twelve Gates in the City." The Jordanaires and The Sweet Inspirations harmonizing, I believe. When they get to the hallelujah background it sounds so natural, like breathing.
