20 Dec 10 - 03:33 PM (#3057988) Subject: Origins: The Wild Bees Nest From: GUEST,Pat 'de Verse' Burke Last Friday at the National Library in Dublin, a group of traditional singers (myself included) participated in a concert in the Library Seminar room. The concert was the end of the first part of a traditional song project, organised by artists Aileen Lambert and her partner Michael Fortune from Co. Wexford. The project consisted of all the singers researching a particular traditional song over a number of months and then singing it at the concert. For my own part, I researched and sang 'The Irish Jubilee', which I discovered was written by James Thornton with music by Charles Lawler in New York in 1890. Reports of the concert were carried on Irish television that evening, on RTÉ News Six-One and on the Irish language channel TG4 at 7pm. Both reports are available to view on the RTE player on www.rte.ie and on the TG4 beo player on www.tg4.ie. For more information go to www.thewildbeesnest.ie. Many thanks to all who attended the concert. We hope we gave a good account of ourselves. |

The challenge is now open to all you mudcatters to have a look at the songs and see can you add any additional information on any of them or variations. Make it a new years resolution. Happy Christmas to yez all. |
