Christmas is coming, and I'm trying to figure out the lyrics to the song "I'm going home, it's Christmas time" by Ralph Stanley. Have some trouble with a few lines on this Ralph Stanley song. Would be glad if anyone could help.
You can listen to the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjG3caq2Erw

I'M GOING HOME, IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME
Ralph Stanley

The days are long the work is hard
All________________________far away
But I always make it way back home
To mother and dad on Christmas day

The snow lies deep in the mountain
The wind blows soft in the pines
The smoke curls up from the chimney
I'm going home, it's Christmas time

A little wreath is on the door
There's presents on the cabin floor
_______________the Christmas tree
And the pathway home welcomes me

Christmas is a time of joy

And bring us to our home up there

It's Christmas Time

This is what your missing lines sound like to me, GuestRobin.

..rambling far away

Dad has trimmed the christmas tree

when God sent down his only boy

Thanks a lot, Melissa, it really helps ! Still unsure about the second line, but the rest of the songs seems fine to me

I keep listening (don't ever remember hearing it before and I like it!) and still can't catch that second line. I think the meaning is about work being away from home..rambling around on the job. That's how it goes in my head, anyway, and that's what I'll finagle the words to say when I get around to learning it well enough to sing.

Here's what I hear:

I'M GOING HOME, IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME
Ralph Stanley

1. The days are long. The work is hard,
All year ramblin' far away,
But I always make my way back home
To Mother and Dad on Christmas day.

CHORUS: The snow lies deep in the mountain.
The wind blows soft in the pine.
The smoke curls up from the chimney.
I'm goin' home. It's Christmas time.

2. A little wreath hangs on the door.
There's presents on the cabin floor.
Dad has trimmed the Christmas tree,
And the pathway home it welcomes me.

3. Christmas is a time of joy
When God sent down his only boy
To save us from sins and care
And bring us to our home up there.

Wow, thanks a lot, Jim ! That second line sounded really garbled to me. Finally it makes sense, now

First verse, second line:

"All year round and far away."

THE SECOND LINE IS DEFINITELY
The days are long, the work is hard, all year round, far away

Great tune~

I think the missing lines are:
...all here round and far away
...Daddy's trimmed the Christmas tree
...When God sent down His only boy
