I need to find out if this less-well known, possibly Québécois tune, which may well not in fact be called La Reel Gaspé, is trad or not - or more importantly if it is public domain or not. This tune I have it from the band that it might have come from/via Yvon Mimeault, the wonderful left-handed fiddler from Quebec. I have tried to contact Yvon (on Facebook), but not had a response. Does anyone have any other way of contacting him, or know if this tune ever goes by any other title, and/or who wrote it, and/or if it is public domain or not? Many thanks Tom |

The tunes I've found on the net (so far) called Reel du Lapin are not this one. I'll keep looking. I joined fiddle-L, but then couldn't find anything to do with fiddles or Donna. Of the tunes you have found on the net, are you referring to audio or sheet music? This is one of those tunes that some folks start with the A part and others start with the B part. Perhaps it's the same tune with the A and B parts are reversed. According to my source (The Portland Collection -by Sue Songer with Clyde Curley), Eric Favreau says that in Quebec, the tune goes by the names "La Claqueuse" and "La Peteuse." I can't say for sure if it's traditional, but I could probably find out for you. Hope this helps. KT |

I've only found sheet music and ABC on the net - no audio. Even dots can be hard to compare, given how much tunes vary from place to place. The Rabbit Reels I've found so far all seem to be Saut du Lapin (jump) or Rabbit Stew etc etc. I've not found a plain 'Reel du Lapin' yet. I'll have a look for "La Claqueuse" and "La Peteuse." If I can get a majority view on Trad I'll be content! Cheers Tom |

And 'La Peteuse' just brings up what you'd expect, which is not really music in the conventional sense! No actual music, just the link re alternative names at The Portland Collection. Rabbit Reel under such a name in a form I can read or listen to still evades me. Cheers Tom |
