Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering

Who would be interested in a Yorkshire Folk Gathering in May (hopefully 20th). The higher the numbers the better the deal I can cut with pub owners. Hoping to get use of a function room if we promise to eat at least one meal. Pub has field and real ale. A simple hands up at this stage should give me enough info to take to landlord :-)

As Shepley is also the 20th and Holmfirth the 6th a better date would be the 13th. So 13th May any interested :-)

I really enjoyed the weekends we used to have. Meeting other Mudcatters was always a pleasure.

I hope that I can make it.

Liz you are correct, Shepley show as a week later!!

So that being polite has made a mess of Doncaster and left the previous week free!

Some ppl are going to be perplexed

Thanks, Liz

Well we are pencilled in to the pub for the 13th. Cost of camping will be £4 per night for caravans or £2 a night for a tent regardless of number of occupants. May be room for negotiation but seems fair enough. All at discussion stage at moment but landlady said may be able to do breakfasts if enough takers. Sorry if it clashes with something but I suppose it is inevitable sometimes.

Is this likely to be same sort of part of the world as previously ie not a million miles from Selby? If I'm about no doubt come and have a sing or play depending what sort of thing it is.

Be nicer if it was a slightly more friendly response from the locals than the last one I came to.

It will be closer to Wakefield Nick. Can't speak for the locals although they seem a good crowd. We will also have use of the function room so whilst welcoming friendly outsiders would have the right to ask them to politely shut up or ship out :)

The pub is the White Horse Old Sharlston WF4 1EP and date is 13th May. Nearest B&B is the Redbeck Motel according to my searches. We are hoping that the pub will do breakfast if there is enough interest. Also wondered whether folk might be interested in a pie and pea supper or something on the Saturday night or of course the pub does very good pub food.

Nice Choice.
Living in Hemsworth, I could walk there in around 45 minutes!!!
It may be possible to camp on the "common land", not to far away if the council allow it.

Hello folks

As penniless house renovation monkeys, a folk gathering is a welcomed break from concrete and joists. I will consult with my chief engineer and see if we will be deserving of a weekend off by May 13th, though I am not sure if the lack of showers could cause him to baulk (he is rather a fastidious boy!) At the very least I will bargain hard for a day pass!

Hi, Dancing Ann- if you're asking 'do we dance at Mudcat gatherings', the answer is 'it has been known' :)

It all depends who is going- in times past we have had gatherings in places with a hall where dancing could take place and a scratch ceili band got together to play for dancing- good fun.

I don't think that is on the cards for this gathering though- probably music and singing sessions- and chatting- but again, it depends who is there.

Does that answer your question?

foggers - Someone was asking just a couple of days back if there were any plans for another session this year. As far as we are concerned, we are just starting to think beyond Christmastide and haven't got as far as May yet.
If we do sort out a weekend, we try not to clash with nearby folk events and we haven't looked at dates of local Folk Festivals yet.
We enjoyed last year, and the pub seemed to like us being there, so we probably need to decide fairly soon.
I'll tell Mrs Duck you were asking.
Quack!
Geoff.

p.s.
From: GUEST,Guest - Did anything actually happen in 2011?
I seem to remember revolutions in Egypt and Libya. A royal wedding. Bin Laden got shot. Greece went bust. Kim Jong got Ill, and a few folkies sat in a pub field on a fairly windy weekend in May.
Quack!

Seems whatever weekend there is something on but pub is free on 18th so have pencilled it in. We can have the function room Friday evening and all day Saturday but it is used for Sunday lunches so may put up a party tent/marquee so we can have a session on Sunday as long as not too windy lol Breakfasts will be available both days and we can discuss what we might want as a meal on Saturday.
It was a lovely do last year so I hope those who came will return and bring friends. Spread the word :)

Ray and Raymond - We are talking about Friday 18 May.
We are aware that would clash with Doncaster Folk Festival, but that month also has Holmfirth, Shepley and things happening on the May Day bank holiday, so a May weekend will clash with something.
Quack!

I'm likely to be away that weekend, but I can arrange to have sets of the THIS IS US Mudcat CDs there for collection if anyone would care to order any.(via PM to me)
Individual CDs will also be available.

Not !8th but, rather, 18th.

I'll be there. Hope it's as good as last year but I would like to see it extend a bit further into Sunday afternoon this time.

It is Mr H. Leadfingers stayed last year. There is no problem staying later on Sunday but the function room is used for Sunday lunches and the bar isn't really big enough but I do own a variety of gazebos and party size double gazebo which we could put up. Would also mean that if the numbers are up and we fancy an off shoot tune session that could also happen during the rest of the weekend. Last year the problem was wind but hopefully that won't happen this year. Presumably once lunches are over we could move back into the function room and carry on into the evening if enough folk are about.
