Jan 11 - 02:59 PM (#3071520) Subject: Music: New Folk Club Brecon, Wales, UK From: the lemonade lady Friday 21st January from 20:30 to 23:00 The Castle of Brecon Hotel In The Castle Bar Brecon, Wales. A New Folk & more Night with a local artist performing original material and an artist from away. I can't go this time but hope to be at the next one. It'll be 3rd Fridays. This event needs lots of support because the folk scene is a bit dormant in this part of Wales. Sal |

Jan 11 - 09:21 AM (#3081367) Subject: RE: Music: New Folk Club Brecon, Wales, UK From: Mr Red Is there another castle in Brecon? Seeems relevant if you want to go there before you go there as it were. Details of the venue are useful, people use satnavs don't ya know. Without a contact telephone number of an organiser you could try the venue. As I always say if going any distance - ring before you go, to check. If the organiser is not a folkie he may not understand the needs of attendees - not many folk organisers do - I can tell you. Isn't Brecon a fair trek from BC? And not exactly en route to Devon. |
Jan 11 - 04:34 PM (#3082929) Subject: RE: Music: New Folk Club Brecon, Wales, UK From: the lemonade lady I'm organising a folk song and music all day session in Brecon, because they don't seem to know what one is. No venue yet or date. I'd like to do it in March. Mr. Red: I don't live in BC, I live near Leominster. One member of Loxley lives in Brecon. Sal Ps Mr Red do you have a Facebook page? |

Jan 11 - 12:29 AM (#3083806) Subject: RE: Music: New Folk Club Brecon, Wales, UK From: GUEST,jeff A few years ago I was in Aberystwyth and there was a bluegrass band called Whiskey Before Breakfast. The bass player's name was Clive Jones. He had a sheep farm, so I'd bet he's still around. They were very much involved in the local music scene. The Cardigan Folk Club I believe it was called. You may want to get in touch w/them in terms of helping you get the word out about yours. There was a great fiddler named Peter did a teaching session @ the Cardigan Hotel and a great guitarist/songwriter named Brian Williams. Sorry, this thread is bringing on alot of recall for me. Their session was on Tuesdays. A mix of instrumental and singing. Accompanied and acapella. Being from the States they allowed me to do a guest spot on the bill w/Tim Van Aiken. Very nice of them. |
Jan 11 - 11:14 AM (#3084695) Subject: RE: Music: New Folk Club Brecon, Wales, UK From: the lemonade lady I sing with a trio called Loxley and are booked at Fishguard Festival. I'll be able to spread the word and find out what's going on. Just seems to be around Brecon that the folk scene is a bit sparse. sal |

There have been a couple of sessions in the Imperial on a Thursday night but that was a while ago.Glamorgan Gates and the Ganolfan Cymraeg put a couple of sessions on, but they died a death too.
