12 Jan 11 - 04:47 AM (#3072743) Subject: BS: How old are we all? From: Will Fly Looking down the threads over several days, I've seen obits of 'Catters who've died, well-wishing threads for those unwell or recovering from illness, birthday threads of 'Catters of a good age - and I've thought to myself: what's the current age profile of Mudcat? Not that it matters - I'm just curious - but I'm sure that our overall age demographic influences the way we think of the world, and the musical world in particular. And the older members will bring a vast sum of musical knowledge to the debates. Well, I'm sure we won't get all the thousands of Mudcatter members to respond to this, but perhaps we'll see what happens... Shall I start? 67 in 2011. (Lady Mudcatters are allowed to shave their age.) I said AGE! |

From: Doug Chadwick Just to add a little music into a BS thread, I wrote this back in in December, as a slow, melancholy blues: Looking out the window on a winters day Wondering what the future might hold. Will I still remember what I'm trying to say Now I've got to 60 years old. People in their 60s tell me life is fine. Maybe, but I think I'm gonna bide my time. 60 always seemed to be the end of the line When I was only 59 Should I act with dignity, be wise and sage? Or live a life that's wild and free? Try to find a woman who is half my age? I don't think that is really me. I'd like to think that when I live this life of mine, I will be maturing like a fine old wine Instead of growing old and grey before my time. I think I'll stick at 59, yeah, I wish I was still 59 So if they if they ask me I'll say I'm only 59 DC |

Then I have to subtract one from the other, and adjust according to whether I have had a birthday recently . . . is it worth it? Like everyone else, I feel about 30 in my head, but the rest of my body begs to differ. I very rarely get more nthan an occasional cold, but I now have "conditions". There's a wonderful little book called "Growing Old Disgracefully" by Rohan Candappa. It's my manual for when I have to admit to myself the passage of time. I have bought it for several of my friends. It doesn't deny ageing: it gives ideas for making the most of it, and turning it to one's advantage! My late husband had a tee shirt (now in the possession of my nearly 32 year old son) which says "I came into this world fat and bald, and I intend to go out the same way". He did. I used to have a badge with "39 and holding"...I think I need an upgrade! Andrea (59 and holding) |

Previous to this one, her 29th birthday was of the most significance to me because I remember so clearly when I turned 29. But 49? That is recent history!
