There are a small trio that are working the circuit around the Maidstone area in Kent; Toby, Soph and Callum. They're a part of the folk rock band Wheeler Street but this is the trio that were around before the band. They perform a lot more traditional acoustic stuff. Lots of Nic Jones, Peter Bellamy, etc. influence but all arranged and played individually and beautifully by the three of them (I think they're actually using a double bassist as well now). Anyway, I've just been wandering around town and noticed that they are playing in the Style and Winch this Friday, on Union Street. It may be worth the trip for anyone wishing to see some refreshing traditional folk by some of the younger Kent folk scene. Sinéad. |
