Lyr Req: Swaledale Leadminer's Song (Mike Donald)

Subject: Tune Req: Looking for a song title
From: GUEST,Ian White

My Father used to have a song that began

One wintry morning a rider came down
over the fells from Gunnerside
and the chorus was
A Leadminers life is a hard one
there bringing the hop or hot rice from Spain

Any idea as to who sang this and the song title please

Thanks

The song title is 'The Swaledale Leadminers Song' written and sung by Mike Donald (1974) and the chorus is as follows:
'And a leadminer's life is a hard one
    Digging and scarring Arkengarth
    A leadminer's life is a hard one
Tell me the tales of a miner's heart'.

"...over the fells from Gunnerside, His horse looked tired and the poor boy cried, They're bringing in the half-price lead from Spain!"
I think it's on his L.P. Songs of the Broad Acres, or failing that North By North-East.

Yes HughM is correct - it is on his LP 'Songs of the Broad Acres'.
