BS: persistent infections

I am starting this so as not to intrude on the healing threads for a mudcat member with a very serious infection, post-surgery I believe. Please do not mention names, locations etc. in case of people googling. I don't like standing by when someone is in a very serious state.

So I will be looking for ways to reduce infection and/or fever...something might have been overlooked in his medical treatment or someone might know something that could help. mg

Afew years ago, I had major surgery after an accident.
The operation went quite well but after a few days in hospital I developed MRSA hospital aquired infection, which was treated with maximum doses of very strong anti- biotics,
My condition continued to worsen accompanied by high fever until the doctors decided to discharge me from hospital and continue treatment at home.

I started to improve immediately and within a month was well enough to do light work.
My advice... get out of hospital as quickly as possible!

Is there an aromatherapist on board? Some essential oils, I believe thyme and tea tree, work against MRSA. In fact, most are somewhat antibacterial I believe. I will google later. mg

I am not implying that MRSA is involved here. I am sure they would have checked for it. mg

Funny you should mention that as said spouse told me he's always done better getting better at home and they need to *listen* to him and what he knows about his body.

NOT endorsing it or anything, but oil of oregano is VERY powerful and said to have all kinds of antibacterial/anti-fungal properties.

LTS not bothering to log out...

Part of the problem is visitors who bring infections in - by coming to visit when they have a cold, or have been feeling a bit unwell but 'struggle on', by not washing their hands after a visit to the bathroom, by sneezing without turning their heads away or using tissues, by over using anti-bacterial sprays and cleaners at home, by not following good hygeine instructions posted in hospital wards; I could go on, but studies many years ago showed that the biggest culprits were hospital pens/keyboards and married hospital staff. Pens can travel the whole length of a hospital and keyboards are usually multi-user. Married hospital staff carried more germs on their hands than unmarried hospital staff - because very few of them removed their wedding rings to wash under them.

Contact with germs is inevitable and we mostly have a good immune system to counteract them but sometimes, the germ wins.

There is an episode of Scrubs which shows just how easy it is to pass on germs to an immuno-supressed patient from a sneeze in a corridor at one end of the hospital, to the patient's room at the other... it's very graphic and should be mandatory viewing for all who set foot in a hospital, regardless of their reason for being there.

Persistent infections can be counteracted by washing frequently with good old soap and water, being sensible with food preparation areas and equipment, using paper tissues and disposing of them carefully and sensibly, occasional disinfecting of things like musical instruments and telephones, having a fresh air intake into the house and not overheating it; all these things can help break the chain of infection and re-infection. If you keep getting colds, treat the cause, not the symptoms.

Don't you worry about the truly filthy patients that hospitals must admit..what can be done with them? Isolation of some sort? Also I think it is asking a lot of medical people to have to wash them..there should be like car washes for bathing patients, particularly the truly filthy. mg

Whatever works, works and what works for one may not work for another. Try anything, everything if you think it will help but one caution: check with the Dr or Apothecary (Pharmacist) first to make sure that the remedy is not contraindicated for the treatment the Dr is conducting and be ready to stop immediately if there is a turn for the worse.
