Any musicians in Bristol, UK?

I'm a singer seeking a guitarist, fiddler or pianist, to help me develop my (mostly slow) songs.

More info available on request. :)

I met and listened to a number of guitarists at the Nova Scotia when I was down visiting have you tried there?

Chas - ummm, no, I don't! :) (do we know each other? apologies if we do, I'm not great with remembering names...) Happy New Year anyway!

Nick - not been there for a while. Good idea, thanks.

With a trad voice of your quality, the last thing in the world you need is a guitarist, let alone a pianist.

If you really have to leave the straight and narrow path, make it a fiddler.

JB - thanks for the advice and compliment! (think it was a compliment?!) :)

I like singing unaccompanied, particularly the trad stuff. But most of the songs that I've written I think work better with accompaniment, and I also love the buzz and challenge (not always easy!) of working with musicians.

I sang with a fiddler for a while last year, and yes, it worked really well - but it seems most folk fiddlers want to play the diddly fast reels and jigs, not the slow melancholic songs that I love. So I'm staying openminded, and hoping it could also work well with the right guitarist, pianist or other instrumentalist. Guess they'd also need to love it too!

So I keep on hoping and searching!

Sue

Silly question perhaps but...

Presumably somwehere in the world there is an example of what it is that you want to do. Whether done by you or by others.

I've been for a few auditions for rock bands over the last year and I tend to just send some examples of stuff along and we go from there. People know what I do and how I play and go from there. The problem usually starts when I'm 30-40 years too old in body (rather than spirit or ability).

You don't have the same barriers in folk/song/acoustic music as age is much less a problem.

From your various posts over time I still wouldn't have the slightest clue of what you sound like or what it is you want to do and that would make it hard to respond even if I was local.

An ad that says 'Bloke who sings wants band' probably is not a huge pull.

I send people stuff like Examples - I think that one is a real mix - and they have some idea.

I know a guy in Bristol who plays guitar and fiddle and sings. His fiddle and guitar styles are American Old Time. He also runs a choir.
I don't know how available he is.....
If this is any good, PM me.
Ray

Nick - yes, you may be right. When I put ads elsewhere, I do always add my Myspace link, and I'm not sure why I haven't on Mudcat. So here it is: Sue's Myspace
... though since Myspace derangedly messed up their whole site, my songs aren't in the right order any more, and my profile is now very neglected. But the main details and tracks are still there, I suppose.

Thanks Ray, have pm'ed you.
