17 Jan 11 - 12:51 PM (#3076493) Subject: Sheffield Blind Fiddler's Benefit From: Paul Davenport The event, 'Total Eclipse' - the benefit concert for Sheffield's Famous Blind Fiddlers and their patron Sam Goodlad will now take place on Wednesday 19th January at the Hillsborough Hotel, Langsett Rd. Sheffield. Music will be played by the South Riding 'Chamber Orchestra', songs and stuff by, in no particular order; Paul & Liz Davenport, Skyhook, Gavin Davenport, James Fagan and Nancy Kerr, Gina Le Faux with James Reynard and Laurie Faux and Richard & Jess Arrowsmith. Should be a good night and with £10 per ticket to support the cause, listen to the concert and a pie & pea supper thrown in this has got to be a recession beating event! Proceeds go to the placing of a plaque on the wall of 17 Paradise Square, once the pub called 'The Q in the Corner' and headquarters of the legendary blind musicians of Sheffield and the home of their patron, Sam Goodlad. We took our name from a standing stone on the Land's End Peninsula whilst dreaming of Dr Strangely Strange at Blenkinsopp Castle circa 1982. Our local Blind Fiddlers were similarly eclectic with trad stuff interspersed with Handel, Dibdin and their own singer-songwriter offerings. By modern standards they were flash young players thanks to Sam Goodlad, fiddler and early Alistair Anderson type! |

That is Richard and Jess Arrowsmith with James Fagan and Nancy Kerr and they were mega. They are going to be huge mark my words. |
