The event, 'Total Eclipse' - the benefit concert for Sheffield's Famous Blind Fiddlers and their patron Sam Goodlad will now take place on Wednesday 19th January at the Hillsborough Hotel, Langsett Rd. Sheffield.
Music will be played by the South Riding 'Chamber Orchestra', songs and stuff by, in no particular order; Paul & Liz Davenport, Skyhook, Gavin Davenport, James Fagan and Nancy Kerr, Gina Le Faux with James Reynard and Laurie Faux and Richard & Jess Arrowsmith. Should be a good night and with £10 per ticket to support the cause, listen to the concert and a pie & pea supper thrown in this has got to be a recession beating event!
Proceeds go to the placing of a plaque on the wall of 17 Paradise Square, once the pub called 'The Q in the Corner' and headquarters of the legendary blind musicians of Sheffield and the home of their patron, Sam Goodlad.
Order your ticket by ringing 01142 322 100 (Hillsborough Hotel) there are a few still available.

I once did a gig at the Red Deer FC in a band called The Blind Fiddlers (1991?) featuring Raymond Greenoaken, Thor Ewing & Ian Harrison - none of whom were certified blind as such, though myopia affected 50% of the lineup. We took our name from a standing stone on the Land's End Peninsula whilst dreaming of Dr Strangely Strange at Blenkinsopp Castle circa 1982. I think we were the first to cover Jim Eldon's Rockin At The End of Time...

I admire your taste in cover material. Our local Blind Fiddlers were similarly eclectic with trad stuff interspersed with Handel, Dibdin and their own singer-songwriter offerings. By modern standards they were flash young players thanks to Sam Goodlad, fiddler and early Alistair Anderson type!

What an amazing night! Many, many thanks to the audience and the performers. The evening was an unqualified success. This was one of two such events in town last night and both were sell-outs. Sheffield is indeed 'a wonderful town–o'.

Fantastic night with a huge thanks to all the people who performed.

Interesting the other gig "only" had Jon Boden, Martin Simpson and Richard Hawley :-)

Sheffield - the epicentre of the folk universe.

I only caught the last half hour because of fullfilling my quiz fixture but I have to say I was able to hear an exquisite performance from the Melrose Project (?) That is Richard and Jess Arrowsmith with James Fagan and Nancy Kerr and they were mega. They are going to be huge mark my words.

For the initiated, the event was launched to fund the placing of a bronze plaque on the wall of 17 Paradise Square, Sheffield, to commemorate the achievement of Sam Goodlad and the Blind Fiddlers of Sheffield.
We raised £473 on the night - Jim, you caught a great moment in an evening full of such.

Just to let the supporters of this cause know… thanks to some generous folks the fund is now up to £504. Amazing start to this venture. Many thanks again.
