Wow!!!

The Washington Post is reporting this morning that there are 129 million people in the US with "pre-existing conditions" that could face being booted out of their health care plans if the Repubs repeal the health care reform legislation...

Bad timing for the Repubs...

Don't be like that, Capt'n... I mean, that's obvious... I mean, can't we just enjoy watchin' them squirm a little??? Think of it like this... Remember when you were a kid and you'd been fishin' all day and hadn't caught anything and it was gettin' late when yer rod bent and you had finally hooked somethin'??? Well, seein' as it was late and you kinda knew that that fish was gonna be the only catch of the day you kinda strung out reeling the fish in...

That's what we have here so...

...just sit back, pour some Scotch in ya and...

...enjoy...

There was an article on the front page of the Seattle Times today all about how the health care law doesn't actually take any jobs away. Sources were lots of smart and educated people and centrist think tanks. More bad news for Republicans, considering that their official name for the repeal effort is "Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act".

Speaking of toning it down and speaking with honesty . . . .

Obama was right...the more people understand and begin to benefit from the plan, the more they will support it. The biggest complaint has been that everyone must carry health insurance. Well, this has been a stipulation in Massachusettes for some time under conservative Mitt Romney's plan. You can't have an insurance plan where people only choose to participate when they become ill or injured. No insurance works that way.
And the "if it's so great, why doesn't congress use it?" argument is wearing thin. People are beginning to understand that you don't HAVE to take the national health insurance if you already have something better. The electorate is pretty ignorant and vulnerable to scare tactics, but time and participation will eliminate that.

Please don't wager any more on this outcome than you can afford to lose.

Our own Douggie-boy, for example, still believes the bullshit and will until the day he dies.

Always bet on stupidity, & you'll never go broke.

The favorite gripe of Americans is, "How come I have to pay for other people's health problems??? Why don't they pay for their own??"

Then Obama says, "Good idea, from now on everyone must pay for their own."

And same people who called for just that idea are now screaming, "HE'S GOING TO DESTROY OUR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM!!!! HOW DARE HE TELL ME I HAVE TO HAVE MY OWN!!!!!" I agree--never bet against stupidity.

BTW, the House is going to vote on the repeal tomorrow so if ya' feel like havin' a little fun (and you have a Repub congressperson) call their office and tell 'um "Hands off the AFFORDABLE CARE ACT" (not meant to be a scream... That's the name of it...)

As a cartoon I posted at Facebook a week or so ago said, "Obamacare" might not be perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than "No one cares" which has been the case for years.

There are plenty of people out there who aren't happy with the health care bill...not because of what's in it, but because it didn't go far enough.

That was purdy much what I said in my message to Eric Cantor today, linn...

...plus telling him that he works for the taxpayers and he is wasting my tax money playing "grandstand" and asking him if he had any better ideas on reducing the cost of health care then why didn't he speak up when the legislation was being debated and written...

He won't like my message, at all... Tough beans...

They tried to repeal Social Security, and they tried to kill Medicare, it's in their genes.

I have been experimenting with friends, family, colleagues.
Ask anyone who opposes "Obamacare" specifically what they object to about it, and they have *no answer*!!
Surprise, surprise.
They may say "it's a government takeover", or "it kills jobs", but if you press for details, they have none. zero. zip. nada.
All they have is the slogans.

I do not remember an attempt to repeal Social Security. I hold no great brief for the Republicons, but I think that is a bit of a stretch!

You'd have to be the Capt'n's age to remember that far back, Mark... It was back when the dinosaurs roamed around ol' D.C.... Well, that's what I heard... Hey, Capt'n... Did they have dinosaurs when you were a kid???

I asked the same question, TIA, of one of my more rabid rightie friends. Her answer was (1) that it was government control and that it was unconstitutional. When I replied it was not, she averred that "the majority of Americans think it is unconstitutional". This, needless to say, was not supported with evidence. I pointed out that traffic lights are also government control, and no one beefs about them too much...

But specific objections, no, none were brought forward.

Lets go over a few things that the Founding Fathers did not say were Constitutional:

Antibiotics

Fuel Injection

Airplanes

Organ transplants

Television

Algebra

CD's

Her's one that everyone here will appreciate, folk music

I mean, let's get real here... We have a bunch of knotheads who if you take them at their word would have to have everything I mentioned banned because the Founding Fathers didn't put them things in the Constitution???

Beam me up, Scotty... Ain't no sanity left here...

I always figured the constitution was not a document to authorize anything - rather it was a document to forbid government from doing certain things, like prohibiting the free exercise of religion, or censoring the press, etc.

Well it does lay out the structure of the 3 ring circus that is the government proper, and instruct it to do certain things. But you're right that the Bill of Rights is mostly about telling the government what NOT to do.

I think it is going to be interesting to see how the Repubs scramble to to provide a "Constitutional basis" for every piece of legislation that is introduced in the House... That's what the Weeper says is going to have to occur... I mean, lotta of the Tea Partiers don't know squat about the Constitution... Like I said, gonna be fun...

Problem being that the TeaBagger idiots and their fellow travellers have never READ the damn constution and the few that have don't bloody understand what it says. what they erroneously THINK is says doesn't signify.

As mentioned above, when asked to cite where specific violations are, the answer is a blank stare.

Just the other day on one of the call-in shows a TeaBagger was going on about "what it said in thee Federalist Papers. When asked "which one" the response was "HUH? Then the person had to admit he' never actiually read them.....

Oh, ye generation of morons.

The Republicans very seriously tried to convert social security to individual investment of the funds -- boy, THAT would have been a great idea, wouldn't it?

I kind of recall an effort to allow people a choice between participating in Social Security or using all or part of the same money to set up a private plan. Can't object too much to your having a choice - it's your money anyway, so you should have a say in how it is directed.

The notion of letting people speculate with their Social Security investment is flawed on a very basic level. Suppose Burt and Martha put their entire fund into a risky high-reward fund that then goes belly up. Do you really think Burt is going to say "well, such is life, Martha. It's dogfood and a bed in the back of the Buick for us"? Hell, no. Burt and Martha are going to become wards of the State anyway, but this time they'll be living on the rest of our dollars.

Republicans are all for individual initiative and personal responsibility until it comes to themselves. Then its "well, sure I've got my pension, but I'm entitled to my Medicare benefit on top of that. I just want what's coming to me." One of the biggest problems for these people in Health Care reform is the dropping of secondary Medicare programs run at huge profits by the big insurance companies. They want all the basic benefits, plus all the incidentals, and the government needs to pay for it, by God.

I love the aspect of the proposed Republican tax reform that does away with the homeowners' tax benefit for mortgage interest. I can't wait to see the reaction when that one gets trotted out, along with continued tax cuts for the wealthy.

The reaction? The Boobocracy will think it's wonderful, even tho they're shooting themselves in the ass.

When was the last time these effing idiots didn't vote against their own interests?

The problem with letting people choose individual retirement accounts is that if those investments don't pan out then they (we) are stuck inevitably with bailing out these folks when they are 70 and broke and on the streets... It's the same with people who say they don't want to participate in purchasing health insurance from a pool... I mean, if they opt out and get sick they are still going to get treated and the hospital will recoup it thru increased costs to the rest of US...

I mean, I'd rather everyone have to put their money in a pool that provides some level of security for our older folks then to turn the entire issue into a crap shoot...

The nuttiness here is that SS is supposed to be a safety net above and beyond individual savings, to provide a nation-wide level of minimum security. And it is NOT much. But it prevents people from starving on street corners and allowing them to buy dogfood and register the Buick. THat's about it.

THe concept of turning it private is absurd, and means those who promote it do not understand the history behindthe thing in the first place.
