You tube editors and musicians wanted

20 Jan 11 - 12:59 AM (#3078418)
Subject: Volunteer artists for Mudcat album
From: Donuel

After watching all available you tubes of the talent here I had an idea that may not be new, but is worthwhile. The idea is…
A Mudcat Album of 15 or so songs featuring different artists in a very eclectic collection.

I once participated in the World Violin Project in which each person built a particular part/assembly of a violin. It was very satisfying and brought about a good deal of pride and friendships.
The World violin was made by over 20 different people all over the world. This World violin got me thinking about making an album with as many mudcatters as possible.

Along similar lines I propose people consider what they might wish to contribute based on their desire. Expertise is not central to participation. As with the violin making project some people learned how to do some things for the first time and new doors opened for them.

Rules:
We are all Producers here.
We are all volunteers.
Agree that there will be no ownership or remuneration except for any possible proceeds that would go to sustaining this Mudcat music resource website.

What to expect if you volunteer:

You will receive a tune fragment in which you will add your part on a separate file or memory stick. (or some better idea) Hearing the tune fragment which may be as little as a guitar or percussion, on an earphone you record your part as directed.
The concept album is for a very eclectic play list.

You may want to create a different concept for a different collaboration album eventually but for this "eclectic project", I would hope the suggested tunes not be significantly different.

An American tune, by P Simon
Crazy, Patsy Cline- country
Try a Little Tenderness- R&B
Buddy can you spare a dime- 1930's
Shogun's Farewell-l Civil War
Peace Train- Pop
Prelude #1 in C major Bach...rococo baroque
Claire de Lune- Romantic Classical
Ba Boom Ba, Metisse jazz pop
Hypnotized Fleetwood Mac Rock
Here comes the sun Beatles folk style
Defending your life soundtrack –fiddles oboe brass
You've got a friend in me   Randy Newman
Irish gigue etc.
Shanty acappela
Ancient tune
Organic (birds) New Age.
Humor/parody song

To get started I volunteer for
Communication/concept director, cello, mandolin, uke, violin

Needed:

A volunteer lawyer so all covered tunes are legal
.
$5 Contributors to cover any financial burden too great for me alone.

Someone like Joe Offer for treasurer (sorry Joe you seem trustworthy :)

MUSICIANS instrumentalists and vocalists Galore

Music video editor

Music editor

Artist co coordinator

That thing only YOU can do.

------------------------------------------------------------

There will be surprises I am sure, and naturally there are some names/avatars we all hope to see.

There is a scaled down plan B so don't be shy

It's a good idea, Donuel, but I think Bradfordian is already working on this. Take a look at this thread (click).

All right what is that song's name?

Cold Play and many other groups work like this.

Very nice Joe. I spent too much time down under and missed it.
The difference is building songs rather than compiling already completed works.

Generally I do not like privatization but a job offer is more univerally appealing. Besides times are hard and even communists like to get paid ;~}

For those who are highly skilled and can not afford a volunteer project..PM me and make an offer of your expertise and price to work on 6 songs songs.

PM your offer - do not post it here.

and pass the word.

Ashokan Farewell.

But I like the title Shogun Farewell better!

Donuel, I tried the idea of many people contributing to the singing of a song --- rather like the Perfect Day charity effort, but it never got off the ground. I think these kind of things seem somewhat "involved" for most people

I think it's a fine idea and not too complicated. I'm still doing something (though later than planned with Tootler) for the end of March one and will start a thing with my wife which I'll send to Ian too.

Very few of these things are mutually exclusive and I love collaborative projects.

I played bass on a song a few years ago for someone I have never met and probably never will and enjoyed it enormously.

With those many eager and talented poets, composers, and arrangers here it would be a shame to buy existing material. Let the poets start donating. Instead of a treasurer, a juror would be needed, such as mousethief (health permitting). Words and melodies can be posted here; later, sound files should be mailed.
