Most of the old blues players played in open G which they referred to as "Spainish tuning"... Open G is very versatile and also provides one a quit key change by capo'n to the second fret and giving you an open A... Now if yer gonna do that I would suggest a 14 fret geetar because this will get you to the 12th fret (from the capo) with relative ease... If you don't know much about slide playing here are some basics: if you just play it without fretting or sliding but just open, that is yer 1 chord... Yer 4 chord then is the 5th fret and yer 5 chord is the 7th fret... Yer 1 chord is also the 12th fret but one octave higher... To play Delta blues (with open tunings and slide) you need to be able to those frets... Don't mash the slide down either like you would if you were making a bar chord... Practice "sliding" the slide... It's easier to slide up than to slide down but with practice sliding down will be no problem and if yer goina' do stuff like "Catfish Blues" you'll have to learn how to do that... B~ |

Pretty song, but not remotely a blues. Leon Redbone, among others, has covered it.
