Named after wild dogs that lived there.

There is apparently speculation that the dogs referred to are actually monk seals, which would have been sea dogs in Latin.

As for the Hundred Years' War, it lasted for 116 years, including a few periods of peace.

I saw this quiz many years back. I think that Panama hats are made in South America--but dinged if I recall which country.

Definitely Equador.

I think camel hair brushes are made from badger hair.
Purple finches are a pinkish red.
Chinese gooseberries come from New Zealand.

I had a beagle. Named him Duke after The Beverly Hillbilly's dog.

Beagle... stunned as me arse. Chase anything to the death.

Oh dear,

Here I sit, brokenhearted,
I paid a penny, and only farted...

I only knew 7, 8 and 9. I guess I'll be stuck in high school forever?

Foolestroupe, where did you find a bathroom for only a penny? Even in Hungary it's the equivalent of USA 50 cents.

My grandfather told me that... :-)

It's OLD folkllore ... don't remember the rest of it.

I can remember back in the 1950s there were a few very old public toilets that I saw with the penny mechanism here in Aust. None around now that I know of - too much trouble and temptation.

The only price I ever saw charged in Canada was 10 cents. In Germany, it was 20 pfennig.

And I haven't seen a pay toilet at all in years and years.

Whatever price they charged, it was always "spend a penny", from the good old pre-decimalisation days when you could find one without a microscope. I remember thinking that one good thing about devaluation when the pound dropped from $2.80 to $2.40 was that now a penny would be the same as a US cent.
