Don T's 70th Birfday Bash- Good Intent

70 years of successfully avoiding growing up will be celebrated at the Good Intent, John Street, Rochester on Saturday 5th February.

From Noon till 11pm, and everybody is welcome.

I will also be celebrating the start of my recovery from a heart attack on 18th January.

I now have a total of five stents, and can irritate the hell out of airport security.

In six - eight weeks I have to return for the addition of another two, which, according to my consultant should leave me fitter than I've been for a long time.

I will enjoy a pint or two plus a lot of music. I may even sing a song or two (waaaaait a minute.....come back you buggers!).

Don T.

Hello Don,

Sorry to hear that you have had problems and glad to hear that you are on the mend.

Have a super day with lots of birthday happies!

I'm afraid I can't get down as I am otherwise engaged, but know you will have an amazing time.

Best wishes,

Peter

That heart thing was news to me too, glad you're on the mend. Perhaps you ought to slow down a little and take life a bit easier? *grin*

Hope you have a Fab birthday. It's unlikely that we'll get to the Good Intent but will if we can.

Newsflash.

Date for second, and I hope final, angioplasty (two more stents in a minor branch vessel) is confirmed as 16th February.

All the more reason to make the best of Saturday week.

Slow down and take things easy MGAS? Wash your mouth out my girl.

I plan to be still kicking up a fuss when they are trying to nail the lid down.

What the name of the town? Is it Rochester? or something like that.

Excellent Unicornman.

It is indeed Rochester.

Make your way to Star Hill junction, and take Victoria Street straight up the left side of the old disused Police Station. At the top turn left and immediately right and you're in John Street.

The pub is up round the bend on the left hand side.

The disused police station is not there any more, so it's less use as a landmark. Who said we folkies live in the past? The address of the Good Intent is John Street and googlemaps will provide a street view.

Glad you are on the mend, hopefully The Dean of Rochester and myself will be down on Saturday to sing a few songs. I have mentioned this to Senoid, and she hopes to come down as well.

Looking forward to the 5th

Turn left at the spanking new Orbit housing development (the one with turrets. Follow the road round and find what they term "The Ugly Pub". I think the name is unfair. It is The good Intent

Thanks folks. I had two little people singing Happy Birthday over the telephone this evening, and can't quite control the urge to smile inanely.

Saturday looms large and I'm going to have a blast. Carefully of course.

Pete, it's possible I may be missing again on 21st, as I have another procedure involving two more stents on 16th, and should, strictly speaking, be housebound for a week.

However, being five days on which is almost a week, I may persuade Poetry Bird to run me out there.

If not, I'll definitely see you all in March.

It was a good do.

Neither Royston nor I had picked up a guitar for far too long, so sore fingers are the order of the night. I suspect sore heads may be the order of the morning.

Not to criticise by omission, it was nice to hear some of the old guard so truly on song, Derek Moore was on top form, and Gastove too. Wasn't that little guitar that Brian Rodgers had with him (the one he is offering for sale on behalf of the owner) a belter? Clever Evil was also impeccable (with a splendid wit in the order of chosen songs) and Dave and Gaye Reay never fail to impress. Cari was producing a lovely tone on the fiddle, she is such a sensitive player. Wee Jock and Dean were on the top of their game too, and we also had some stonking shanty harmony and Leadfingers was as entertaining as always.

Thanks to Karen & Dal for providing the venue for approximately sixty people to join me in celebrating seventy years of getting older, but not necessarily wiser (so Winnie says).

I'm not going into individual names because there were so many that I'm certain to leave somebody out, so I'll just say a million thankyous to all the good friends who gave me the best of all birthday gifts, their presence and their music.

In 70 years I've never had a better birthday, and I'm pretty sure I never will.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts
Don & Winnie Thompson.

P.S. You bet we're taking it easy today. We're both cream crackered, but hey, what better reason for getting that way.

Sorry that us Leopards had to leave early, but we were by no means the only ones who had to. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, as we always do at the Good intent, and what better reason to be there !Great to have a winter gathering of so many talented players and singers too. We're taking it easy after a long and music filled day. Thanks Don and Winnie.

I've let her loose on the quiet streets of Mudcatville.

Be Afraid.......Be very AFRAID!

Now she'll have to admit there are advantages to having a husband who knows it all!
