(remember those) but not the sleeve notes which contained diagrams etc. I found it an excellent tutor for a beginner & want to pass it to a young friend of mine. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. |

Looking at the track titles it may be the same record under a different title (I'm in UK). My brother had the record in the sixties & I also learnt to play from it (poorly I might add). It seemed pleasantly relaxed in it's approach - compared to the 'standard' book, Play in a Day by Bert Weedon. I seem to remember one of the early accomplishments that Pete encouraged on the record was to develop an 'educated' thumb on the right hand! There was a great tune at the end of the book called Mexican Blues. I finally managed to struggle through it but could never make it sound the way Pete Seeger did. I wonder if, 45 years later, I could make a better job of it?? |

I made a slight mistake - the LP is titled 'The Folksingers' Guitar Guide' but the cover is not the usual one. It is on the 'XTRA' label (XTRA 1034) & has the following printed on it. 'Contents produced by Folkways Records USA and issued by special permission. Cover: Brian and Sally Shuel XTRA manufactured and distributed in Britain by Transatlantic Records Ltd, 120/122 Marylebone Lane, London W1 (was getting the title confused with Peggy Seegers 'American folk Guitar' which book I have but not the accompanying LP) Liner notes downloaded & printed! Now, I hate to confuse the matter, but there is a second volume of the Folksinger's Guitar Guide this one by Jerry Silverman. All Folkways albums can by purchased by download, and the album notes are available online. Also, there were Oak Publications books to go along with both recordings. The books are out of print, but are available used at fairly reasonable prices. -Joe- |

The cover is pale green with a sketch of a circle of people grouped around a young man playing a guitar. A signature at the edge seems to say Carlis or Carlie. I became the 'gal with the educated thumb' in 1963 as well! Robyn |
