Singing problems......

Hello,

I have been a singer for a number of years now and have recently started having some voice issues. I still have my range (low A to top C, Tenor/Counter Tenor) but i can only sing AAAAAAHHHHH. If i sing EEEEEEEEEE i can only reach an E or an F. Above this my voice cant settle and wobbles off the note no matter how hard i try to keep it there. I have seen three ENT doctors who say i have no nodules or polyps, but i have a very slight inflamation of the vocal chords ( i think this is a side effect of straining to sing EEEEE above the notes mentioned). I have taken 2 bouts of steriod, with 2 bouts of antibiotics. Also i have taken 3 different types of nasal sprays, i have steamed, i have used difflam and i have just rested (for over 6 months of no singing) and nothing has made a difference.

Does anyone have any ideas? FYI i am due to fly to italy tomorrow to start a new singing contract.

thanks in advance of anything useful anyone has to offer.

:)

by the way im 25. thanks.

You might find some help with a technique called Speech Level Singing. There is a website by that name which includes teachers located in the US and Italy etc. I believe it is based on Bel Canto. Any type of singer can use it. They often offer a one hour free introductory workshop and then you can choose private lessons if you want. I found it helpful when I had a change in my abilities with my voice and did not know why. My teacher gave me specific exercises to take home and I found they really helped and I regained confidence in my voice.

IMHO I found that SLS, like other singing exercises, will help you cope with a problem but it doesn't cure it.

Have you ever thought that you might've developed an allergy?
