Subject: Lyr Req: Father Looked Funny (from Harry Champion

You can hear this at YouTube. This is the first of 2 songs in that "video."

Any help in making corrections, or filling in missing words, would be appreciated.

FATHER LOOKED FUNNY
As recorded by Harry Champion, 1907.

1. My old mother struck a funny idea with my father yesterday.
She got tired of patching up his trousers so she struck another lay.
As he is so nicely built,
Set to work and made a kilt.
All the kids said, "What a log!" [or "lark"?]
As he sauntered through the fog.

Father did look funny, funny-unny-unny-unny.
As he strolled beneath the trees,
Came along a swarm of bumblebees.
All around his lovely kilt, they started making honey.
He waddled like a duck 'cause his legs got stuck,
And Father did look funny.

2. Poor old Father, riding in a tram car, it was fairly packed inside.
Some old fat girl come along in public. She'd made up her mind to ride.
Conductor said, "That poor old chap
Lets you sit upon his lap."
She sat down. He gave a groan.
It must have hurt his funny-bone.

Father did look funny, funny-unny-unny-honey.
He said don't you ... or so,
Making me feel like a lump of dough?
He was clearly doubled up, especially his tummy.
He was facing there like an old armchair,
And Father did look funny.

3. Father once he had a lot of whiskers. You could throw south into north.
In the field he went and had a lay-down. Some old donkey chewed 'em off.
When his face the old girl saw,
Said she'll have to grow some more,
Laid him down and with a pin,
Stuck some holes all round his chin.

And Father did look funny, funny-unny-unny-honey.
Filled up all the holes with glue,
Didn't know what she was going to do.
Still she pulled some hair out of the back of our old bunny,
Covered up his chin with a rabbit skin,
And Father did look funny.

4. Once we stuck a very funny ... up all the rent we owe.
Fancy Father stuck him in the garden like a man from Borneo.
Flotsam jotsam, diff'rent trades,
Married women and old maids,
They all came to have a feel
To see if all his parts was real.

Father did look funny, funny-unny-unny-honey,
Like a statued Hottentot.
Everybody they touched the spot.
Fancied such a lot of money, once all round his tummy.
It makes him ... ...
'Cause Father did look funny.
