For the other queries it's better to put in separate threads :"Adge Cutler" , "Singing Postman" to attract attention. I have one Wurzels LP but has mostly trad. songs, only a couple of originals. If there is a specific song, better to put it in the heading. When I'm back from leave and not too busy I can write out & then post AC's lyrics off the Wurzel's record if no-one else beats me to it. Refresh the thread in mid Oct if you've had no better response. I thought "Drink up thee Cider" was already in the DT, but can't see it, try a thread search, I'm sure someone has posted the lyrics in the last year. Roger |

(Who was not the "man you love to hate" - as stated by the contributer on the link above - The man we love to hate was Erich von Stroheim! Veidt was a fine and versatile actor, whose roles included the murderous zombie in The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, a Christlike figure in The Passing of the 3rd Floor Back, and a villanous Nazi in Casablanca) Our tape has a few minor changes to the words and an introductory chorus. Male choir sings: An incomprehensible chorus which sounds like German or heavily German accented English, or a bit of both, finishing up with "....Dreaming of countryside where he was born." There's a lighthouse shines across the bay, There's a cottage kissed by fume (does he mean spume?) and spray, Cheerful logs to warm the winter day are blazing. Listening to the breakers on the shore, from a tiny cottage thatched with straw, stands a fair-haired lassie at the door, star(stare?)-gazing, watching the dark clouds, dreading the gale, counting the days since her lover set sail. There's a lighthouse shines across the bay. seagulls on the shore have heard her say "Come home, my love, come home, my love, come home!" The song is from the film "FPI Doesn't Answer" , a British/German co-production, 1932, released in both languages. |

From: Joybell Thanks Jim, It seems that the recording we have uses the German version sung by Hans Albers as an introduction. I had trouble downloading the whole thing so I'm still a little puzzled by the last line of this German part. It's in English. Just the last line. "....dreaming of countryside where he was born" I'm sure that's what it is. Joy |
