I pm'd Les (out of the blue) for advice on starting a beginners' session.
He was extremely helpful and has sent me LOADS of really good stuff, so here's a heartfelt THANK YOU, Les.
You're a gent.

Alex

P.S. I should also mention Will Fly, who has also been a great help in the past. Cheers, Will

You are all too kind. I have passed a pile if stuff around in the spirit it has been passed to me with helpful advice from Will and Valmai, The Lewes website and dozens and dozens of people on here.

Songs and Tunes at The Beech is great fun because of all those people who sang and played tunes for 400 odd years or whatever and all the people who came to sing them again.

Best of luck Alex

Cheers
Les

I'm flattered because I don't think I've done much at all - but if I have, then you're welcome!

Actually, I think that Les's organisation at the Beech - which I've sampled once and hope to sample again - is really excellent. No wonder the Beech Big Band is up to 400 members.

(Have I got the right figure there?)

:-)

Yes, well said, Alex. This makes a change from the trend towards angst and unpleasantness that seems to be prevalent these days.
Les and Co - well done.

I feel that I should mention that an amzing Irish Session also takes place in The Beech every Monday Night. This Session has moved around 4 or 5 pubs in Chorlton but came back to The Beech last year when it re-opened under the nest Landlord ever, Chris!

Latest news is the Cajun Session that has also moved about a bit will be in The Beech on Tuesdau 22 February:

"first time at The Beech, for the popular monthly live acoustic 'Cajun and Zydeco' Session. Music 9pm, in the back room, free entry. As featured on BBC TV, Channel M TV, The Folk Train, Chorlton Arts Radio etc."

Cheers
