Banbury Song & Ale 2011

Banbury's 4th Song & Ale Weekend - 8th - 10th April 2011

The Song & Ale weekend is a fund-raising event for Banbury Folk Festival in October and is held at Drayton Leisure Golf Centre. There will be a Real Ale Bar and other drinks, including hot drinks, available all weekend. Food will be on sale. We will be providing snacks during the day and a hot meal menu in the evening with two choices and a veggie option – these are home cooked and have proved very popular at previous Song & Ale events. (All profits from our food sales go towards the main festival in October) The Golf Centre also sells rolls and breakfast paninis.

Camping consists of a grass area with a water point for campervans, caravans and tents. The toilets in the clubhouse are available overnight. There is also some hardstanding for heavier vehicles.

The format of the weekend is in the form of informal sing-arounds and music sessions interspersed with surprise guests. There will also be workshops. There will be fund-raising activities including a sweepstake on the Grand National. Of course you will be able to buy Day tickets if you can't make the whole weekend! We would love to see you!

Send us a PM with your address and we will send you a booking form.

Cheque and booking form are in the post! NB the booking form doesn't specify who cheques should be made out to, so mine says "Banbury Folk Association" - hope that's ok?

How can i acquire a didgareedoo please - do you think they'll sell one in the big hardware shop in Banbury or even M & S I suppose?

The workshop is being put on by Banbury Didge Club so I guess they will let us have a go on theirs! However last time Keith Donnelly was at our Folk Club he played the didgareedoo. Perhaps this is the next must have instrument like the ukulele? Harder to pack though!

No didgareedoos needed for your session about Keith Marsden Carol.Looking foward to that!

Sorry you can't be with us this time Chris - Are you planning to be in civvy street soon?

Cheers! D&M

PS: There are still tickets available!
PPS: Snow not programmed in - but you never know!!!

Hi all

Checked in with Nick and Lesley at Drayton Leisure Golf Centre yesterday and they are really looking forward to next weekend. They reckon that our folk crowd are some of the nicest people they come into contact with .... no surprise there!

Anyway they have now added an elsan disposal point to their facilities! The beer is on order from Hook Norton and Lesley is going to offer a more extensive breakfast menu. We will still be doing the snacks and evening menu.

Fingers crossed that we have some of this lovely spring sunshine we have been enjoying lately.

Still some tickets left. The programme is on the Festival website - www.banburyfolkfestival.co.uk You can pay on arrival but it would help us if you are coming to let us know and if you are likely to want evening meals.

Hope to see you there!

Big thanks to Merek'n'Dary for organising a fabulous weekend, to Nick and Lesley for providing such a welcoming venue, to everyone who came, sang, told stories, listened, served the dinners, ran workshops and sessions.... and the sunny weather was just the icing on the cake!

I especially treasure the special moment when Lucy (who had come out for the evening with her parents and sister just to listen) sang Scarborough Fair.
