Saddleworth War of the Roses

Hi All

Thanks to negotiations with Sid, Ray, Ali, Pete and Jan Cleckheaton Folk Festival will host the "War of the Roses" event for 2011. It is still to be called Saddleworth War of the Roses and will follow the same format and even have the same Team Captains, all being well. It's too good an event to lose so we're happy to just look after it for this year and hopefully it will be back in Saddleworth for 2012. It would be great to see plenty there supporting this venture. Looking forward to a great summer.

Sounds alright but won't the Lancasrians be a a disadvantage at Cleckheaton FF where the Sunshines. They are so used to a wet Pitch they knows!

I think scowie is trying to convince you that Lancasire is full of Sun Worshipers Linda! Hell be selling buckets of Rainwater from Manchester next.

Nice t'hear a bit of S/Festival is being preserved for this yeer. D'ya think they'll set up a special area on the campsite for S/W 'refugees', perhaps specially soaked so's to feel at home?

Cleckheaton will welcome all S/W refugees both campers and non campers - if it rains our fields get just as boggy as any!

I would appeal to all Lancastrians and unattached neutrals to support us in this crucial away match. We are deep in enemy territory here but it will give us the opportunity to peep over the neighbour's fence, root through their bins, critise their curtains and perhaps have a guided tour of some of the delights of Yorkshire ( which shouldn't take much out of your day)

As for the sunshine - if you look out of the window in Cleckheaton about 6 o'clock tonight you'll see where the sun has gone.

All the best!

SID

All Lancastrian paddlers will be welcome and as we are usually bathed in sunshine at the weekend, our camp site is located behind the swimming pool - so lots of paddling opportunity!!

Setting in the West Sid? That's enough to put anyone to sleep.

We, in Yorkshire, rise with the lark and make the most of our day,

Ah! Nutty - Hiya Luv!
Weren't you a member of the winning (Yorkshire) team at the first ever War in Uppermill museum? Can't remember the year though.

I have to point out that the Camping Ground is so dry that Barbeques are not allowed!

As Cleckheaton is situated on the Banks of the River Spen. I have been told that the Festival Committee are putting on a ferry so that you may cross it with Dry Feet. There will be a charge of the usual Two Pence per person per trip.

All the public toilets in Cleckheaton will be free for the duration of the festival.

Also a special Folk Train will be running so that festival visitors may experience the delights of Heckmondwike, Liversedge and Drub!

We are all very friendly in Cleckheaton so you should not be afraid of stopping anyone in the street to ask for directions to these attractions.

Unfortunately the annual Cricket Match between the Yorkshire and Lancaster Teams has been cancelled! The committee, I have been told, took this decision as they felt the sight of the Lancaster supporters crying in their beer was frankly putting a down on the whole day. They did consider letting the visiting Team Win but after loosing for so many years they felt that the Lancastrians might smell a rat.

Indeed I was Sid

I can't remember the year either - time just flies by these days

I can remember that it was such a BOILING HOT weekend that all the museum windows were open and I was so badly bitten by the canal mossies that it took me weeks to recover.

When was the event ever held in lancashire Sid C? Saddleworth has always been part of Yorkshire in spirit if not on Whitewall Maps!
We'll be happy to allow you Lankies to join us again and give you the traditional friendly Tykes welcome (but with better beer I'm told).
Jim

Lancashire infiltrators came over the hill and were sussing out the venue at a Cleckheaton Concert on Sat 19th March. Don't think we don't know your game!!

Now then David - it doesn't do to take sides in your position (although I suppose it never stopped Ali O'Brien!) Wasn't it the Duke of Wellington who said "time spent on reconnaissance is seldom wasted"? And he was quite successful.

Lancastrians will have need of a ferry, it is a well known fact that we can all walk on water, a feat only attributed to a certain Mr Boycott in Yorkshire.
