07 Mar 11 - 06:38 AM (#3108812) Subject: Folk Fesivals UK From: Lizzie Cornish 1 I'm tired of hearing about just one festival on this forum, so I thought I thought I'd start a new thread about ALL the different folk festivals in the UK...from Abbotsbury to Moonbeams and all fun places inbetween.. Which ones are folks planning on going to this year? |
07 Mar 11 - 07:34 AM (#3108836) Subject: RE: Folk Fesivals UK From: theleveller We've already booked for Ryedale Folk Festival ryedale folk festival and Moonbeams Festival moonbeams festival Both superb, friendly festivals in the most beautiful settings imaginable. Others may follow later. |

Maybe one or two others if we can fit them in, but we tend to avoid most of the big ones. |
07 Mar 11 - 08:51 AM (#3108876) Subject: RE: Folk Fesivals UK From: Will Fly I don't go to folk festivals - or any other festivals, for that matter - because I'm not a huge fan of them, on the whole. Alan and I popped up to run a pub session at Warwick last year - great fun, but a long way to go for a 3-hour session. Having said that, I shall be attending all 4 days of the Bradfield Traditional Music Weekend, which is a miniature in festival terms, and enjoying playing music, singing, drinking beer and eating pies at the Royal in Dungworth. All in glorious countryside in the Peaks. And I shall take advantage of its proximity to Sheffield to pop down into that city and buy a musical saw from one of the few makers left. Even if I never get to play it properly, I can always saw a few bodhrans in half at future sessions... :-) |
07 Mar 11 - 09:02 AM (#3108880) Subject: RE: Folk Fesivals UK From: Folkiedave I shall miss Dungworth this year - away. But I usually go. |

Maybe, just maybe, anything in France, especially in the Ariege region, or anywhere else within 100 miles or so of Toulouse ; hard to be certain just yet !! Maybe Sidmouth, if someone from above ,who loves camping, can be persuaded to attend ! --All things are possible ! |

07 Mar 11 - 03:07 PM (#3109104) Subject: RE: Folk Fesivals UK From: Folkiedave Delighted to help. 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th July 2011 and Ortigueira is the biggest festival in Western Europe (as far as I know). Three stages, Oysterband, Shooglenifty, Anxo Lorenzo and Cristian Pato are the big attractions for me. The local tourist board and government subsidise it - so there are no charges! Details are on the website - there are some contradictions on the dates on the English bit ( e.g some pages have not had 2010 altered). http://www.festivaldeortigueira.com/index.php?lg=ing Can you log in and contact me? Otherwise I am dave at deyre dot plus dot com. I can probably help with Shetland too! |

08 Mar 11 - 05:04 AM (#3109485) Subject: RE: Folk Fesivals UK From: Bernard Whilst not a folk festival as such, Lymm Folk Club run a series of extra events during Lymm Village Festival, which this year starts on Thursday June 23rd and runs for ten days. I'll be putting the events list up around Easter time, but a useful download for the club generally is an RTF list that is updated weekly. Over the weekend of 25th/26th June we're running an Open Mic session, songwriting competition (5th year running) and concerts with Geoff Higginbottom, The Time Bandits and Pete Coe (who is also a judge for the competition). Other guests over the festival period include Stanley Accrington, the club residents in concert, Peter and Barbara Snape and a surprise concert yet to be announced. Unlike a 'conventional' folk festival, we won't be having events running concurrently, workshops or 'meet the artiste' sessions. For this reason we only sell tickets 'per concert' (there is no 'Season Ticket') - but tickets are cheaper if booked in advance, which applies to any guest night over the whole year. Ticket booking forms can be downloaded from our website - if the form you need isn't yet available, you can either check back nearer the time, or contact me by telephone, snail mail, email or PM me here. Please Note: the email addresses on the site are wrong! To cut down on spam, the '@' is replaced by '_AT_', which needs to be changed before you try to send your message. |

Sadly though, I won't be, as I have this strange person who I regard as an Internet Stalker who follows me on messageboards, so I'd not give him one iota of where he might find me at a festival..or anywhere else. Thanks. See, Joe? Now *that* was polite wasn't it? Because what I really wanted to say was..."Why the fuck don't you get the fuck out of my face, pervert!" But I didn't....... ;0) |

Cowardice I know but there you are. Lizzie as far as I am concerned you are as barmy as a box of frogs. I simply wondered if you were prepared to answer the question you asked everyone else to answer. Clearly not. Some time ago, last year you flounced off Mudcat promising never to return. And not for the first time. Many people breathed a sigh of relief. Those who knew your track record knew you would be back. Now take a look at the threads you have posted since then. Now count the ones I have contributed to. You know for a cyberstalker and a pervert who is supposedly following you around - I don't really do a lot of it. Like I said...........box of frogs. |
