08 Mar 11 - 09:58 AM (#3109615) Subject: Lyr Req: Mrs Mulligan Nearly Wins the Sweep From: GUEST,Robbie I'm desperately trying to track down any lyrics or idea of the tune of a music hall song by Jimmy O'Dea and Harry O'Donovan called "Mrs Mulligan Nearly Wins the Sweep" - it was about the Irish Sweepstakes, performed in Dublin in the 30s or 40s, and all I have is the Parlophone record mark: E.3694. I think it's almost certainly not in existance, but I'd be forever grateful if someone's got a copy of the words! Robbie |

You may need to check. It notes it as "Recorded July 1931". No other detail in the book, on a quick scan. I wouldn't despair too quickly - there are a few people around Mudcat with interest in Irish musichall/variety material. Keep refreshing the thread for a while. Regards |

The flip side was McGilligan's youngest daughter Maggie May. So there are copies still around, if you can tack down the buyer. |

14 Sep 12 - 12:54 PM (#3404592) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Mrs Mulligan Nearly Wins the Sweep From: Matthew Edwards A search in the invaluable catalogue of sound recordings at the Irish Traditional Music Archive suggests that this was one of a series of comic songs and sketches by Jimmy O'Dea and Harry O'Donovan, and issued on 10" 78 records mainly by Parlophone in London, and by Regal Zonophone in Dublin. From the holdings in the archive it seems the series includes: Biddy Mulligan the Pride of the Coombe Mrs Mulligan at the Telephone/ Vitamens Mrs Mulligan at the Racecourse Mrs Mulligan at the Abbey Theatre Mrs Mulligan in Court Mrs Mulligan at the Talkies/Mrs Mulligan in the Tram Mrs Mulligan's Mother-in-Law/The Next Train Mrs Mulligan's Sheiks/Mrs Mulligan Records Her Vote Mrs Mulligan Wins the Sweep/McGilligan's Youngest Daughter Maggie May Mrs Mulligan in London/Mrs Mulligan on Weddings Mrs Mulligan and Charlie/Mrs Mulligan Buys a Turkey Mrs Mulligan and the Motor Car/Mickey at Ellis Island Mrs Mulligan at the Pawnshop/Irish Jaunting Car Sweet Daffodil Mulligan/Fresh Fish Mulligan Versus McIlhagga/Proposing Mulligans and the McGilligans Queens of the Bucket and Brush/Mrs Mulligan's Motor Car Home with the Milk/Mrs Mulligan Takes a Lodger Evicting Mrs Mulligan/Copper and the Lad The Charladies' Ball [featuring Mrs Mulligan "the belle of the ball"] I wonder whether the world is ready for a CD reissue of Mrs Mulligan's adventures.
