09 Mar 11 - 02:12 AM (#3110145) Subject: Chord & lyric req Buffy Sainte-Marie From: GUEST,Lila from Kentucky Can anyone help with Buffy Sainte-Marie's "Native North American Child" from her "Moonshot Album"? I've got all the tribes down, but around the second verse she seems to be singing "sends a forty-niner up and won't change it" which makes no sense at all. Could be a liquor reference and I hardly think it's that in such an up-beat proud song about Native Americans and it still doesn't make sense. I'd like to play it for my daughter's First Grade class. This can easliy make sense here following the line about pilgrims. But I would of course bow to someone who knows definitely. |

Then I used Wikipedia and tried to verify the tribal names—but it turns out someone who put together a video at YouTube has inserted the names as captions in the video. I wish she had done the same with the rest of the lyrics! Verse 2 line 3 still has me stumped. I'm pretty sure "forty-niner" is correct, but I can't make sense of what comes after. One of my favorites is "John Wayne's Teeth" heard in the movie Smoke Signals! |
