18 Mar 11 - 09:16 PM (#3116758) Subject: BS: Okay, I'm Tired Of This Thing! From: Rapparee Olddude, Bobert, and I have all had our wives operated on for breast cancer so far this year. I, and I'm sure they, are TIRED OF IT!!! My wife is tired of and from it and I'm certain their wives are too. So let's knock it off, okay? No more cancer of any sort among the denizens of the Mudcat Cafe. I have spoken. If you disagree, tough. C'mon, step outside and we'll settle this like men (i.e., a quiet discussion of tea and scones). |

19 Mar 11 - 12:17 AM (#3116812) Subject: RE: BS: Okay, I'm Tired Of This Thing! From: LadyJean I want to hear 1. Good news about people I like. 2. Bad knews about public figures I don't like. Preferrably in combination. Oh, and I want the bad news to be really good bad news, like Fred Phelps getting caught in a compromising position with an underage male farm animal. Oh, by the way, my mom's flakey friend Caroline had both breasts removed because of cancer. Then she went to her high school reunion and met a man. In 1993 they moved in together. As far as I know they're still together, and she's still breathing. |

19 Mar 11 - 02:26 AM (#3116838) Subject: RE: BS: Okay, I'm Tired Of This Thing! From: Stilly River Sage This has been a year in which we now fully understand that the Chinese remark of "may you live in interesting times" is truly a curse. (I heard this was a Chinese curse. It may apply to many cultures - they tend to repeat the smart stuff.) I'm hoping one pass of cancer is all I have to deal with. And that the rest of you get over and move on from it. Cancer scares the shit out of you, but it also makes you a better person, because you realize you have another chance to do things right. It means you don't CARE if people know how old you are on your birthday, because you're just so glad to have another one! SRS |

19 Mar 11 - 03:07 AM (#3116847) Subject: RE: BS: Okay, I'm Tired Of This Thing! From: Lizzie Cornish 1 I'm angry and tired of the Big C, Rap, and how it's affected all three of your families of late, but I'll never tire of seeing the love and support that goes on in this place for those who need it. And although we'd all rather not have the threads that have surfaced lately, because we want everyone to be healthy and happy, it brings home that Mudcat is far more than 'just a messageboard'....and those who never come down to the BS section have no idea of the amazing things that go on here. Maybe BS needs to stand for the Beautiful Spirit section, from now on. With much love to all three of you, and your wives, of course. And to you too, SRS, and anyone else whose lives have been touched in this way. Lizzie xxx |

19 Mar 11 - 08:11 AM (#3116923) Subject: RE: BS: Okay, I'm Tired Of This Thing! From: Will Fly It was interesting to do a little poll of Mudcatters' ages recently. The average age of posters - at least of those who gave their age in the thread I started - came out at around 71. So we're none of us getting any younger and, sadly, illness of one kind or another is going to be increasingly with some of us and with our nearest and dearest. [Sigh...] But you know what I say about illness? Let's spit in it's eye and give it the finger! Spirits up - hearts strong. |

19 Mar 11 - 09:31 AM (#3116943) Subject: RE: BS: Okay, I'm Tired Of This Thing! From: Donuel As a child I used to think cancer was the result of some kind of constant irritant. Later I learned that ionizing radiation is a sure fire cause. Now I've come to learn that not only is cancer a result of some viral attacks but our own genes have the ability to turn cancer on and off. It is a natural resppnse so to speak. A normal cell has encoded within it the ability to reprodice itself a set number of times. It is a curiously descrete number of times it can reproduce itself and then it comes to what I call an end cap on the gene that says "stop here" The end cap is a key to either "immortality" or cancer. This line of research is profound and close to practical applications. While old school models of disaes persist the new paradigm of gene therapies are now coming within reach. |

19 Mar 11 - 12:16 PM (#3117018) Subject: RE: BS: Okay, I'm Tired Of This Thing! From: catspaw49 Not to breakaway from Breast cancer but hold a good thought for for alison's husband Mark as he plays the endgame............ This place has become so depressing at times................I guess alison really brought it home too. Reading that thread you see an awful lot of Mudcat "old timers" who sometimes seem almost absent but somehow pop up in tough times for one of our own. What makes that so sad is how often the times are bad and remembering what a great time many of that group were having back 10 and more years ago. I guess we need to expect all of this as the Mudcattter's ages get older but it ain't easy. The whol;e thing just pisses me off though so let's get everyone better and healthier and ban all sickness and death from this site!!!! Yeah.....I know......Just shut the fuck up..................
