Waiting on confirm from B&B. We may have been pipped for our usual B&B. Also checking of accommodation possibilities.

Already purchased tickets for Eliza and Martin Carthy 30 April and Show of Hands 1 May.

Plan to go with my Little Observer Book of Morris and spend a fair amount of time in the Good Intent (our favourite sing a round session).

Any following friends of any of the above (possibly including Matt the totally killer guitarist) - at one stage last year I think there might have been three such friends.

Yes, likewise we will be in the GI most of the time.   Two of Rachel's other friends (to stretch a point on the definition) who I know to be very competent guitarists were in the GI and not sufficiently put on the spot to play last year - one auditioned for LIPPA and got in in Westminster and the other studied sound production at university, so if I spot them I will let sessionmasters know so their arms can be broken.

Tam: If you'd like afternoon entertainment that's just round the corner (literally!) before the Show of Hands gig on Sunday, Atlantic Currants are at The King's Head at 12.30 and Jumbo Gumbo are at Ye Arrow at 4 p.m. Both pubs are a few minutes' walk from the marquee.

(Self-publicist - moi?) :)

On the other hand you might prefer English folk music.

If the Australians are coming to town I'd better get started practising my circular drinking.

practice? isn't that a bit redundant?

Oh no, circular drinking is very hard, like circular breathing when playing the didgeridoo, you have to breathe and swallow at the same time so that the beer never stops flowing...

In theory it is for booked performers including booked dance sides. In practice that extends to "known friends" and maybe as far as "Don't ask, don't tell".

Thank you Richard

I'm new to the area, went to my first Sweeps last year. I don't know any of the performers so I don't know where to start: I'm in the realm of the the known unknowns here.

Is anyone prepared to give me a helping hand for some really cool musical friends who are not booked but will play of you give them half a chance and will certainly have lots of fun over the weekend.

The programme will list other sessions - Bob and Kath Drage will have one and there have often been music sessions in the Vic&Bull. Most pubs will have booked electric bands, but the Man of Kent and the Cooper's Arms might be susceptible of an approach

The following just in from Doug Hudson: -

"Hello Richard
I have just heard that Kathy is going in for an operation on 28th April and will be unable to come to the Sweeps Festival this year. This means that their singaround at the Corn Exchange will not now take place.
I wonder if you might pass this on to interested parties and also the fact ath we still have slots available for the Song Competition on Friday 29th.
Regards
Doug"

I have mentioned this on another thread, but in case you don't read that one, be informed that Jumbo Gumbo are playing at Ye Arrow on the Sunday afternoon (1st. May) at 4 p.m. We've accidentally been missed off the the festival programme, hence the self publicity!

Be there or be rhomboid (or something like that)!

Piglets will be haunting the purple wine bar in the High Street as per usual this year - with a great line up of guests (also as per usual!!) Drop by and see us on your way between pubs.

Will try and pop into the GI some time if schedule allows!

If there are any spare pairs of hands out and about in Rochester early (9.00-ish!) we would very much appreciate some roadies to help setting up the City Wall stage. The only two members of the band with backs are Sue and Lyndsey...

Great day drumming with Gong Scourers on Saturday. Great day on Sunday just walking around and meeting old friends. HUGE thankyou to Frank for the GORGEOUS and BRILLIANT painting that he did of me in my Morris kit!!! Sunny, but WINDY procession with Gundulf's today. All in all, a very pleasant Sweeps! Long may it continue!!!!
