playtime is over! Full blown war is coming, not a minute too soon, the longer we leave it the worse it will get, so lets get on with it & get it over!

Skipy, you ever BEEN to war? Have you seen the guts and blood, the brains and bodies, resulting from war? Are YOU willing to die for a cause? Die gutshot in a gutter because medical help can't get to you? Live with your buddy dying in your arms, his legs blown off by a mine or a mortar shell?

Don't give this old soldier any crap about how glorious it all is. Been there, seen the elephant...and it's damned ugly.

I served for 26 years & was lucky enough to not to be called to any place where the shit had hit the fan, I know it is not as most of the films portray it, I have a few mates "who have been there". However the shit storm is coming & the sooner we sort it out the better. I am sorry that you saw things that have hauted you & respect you for that. Am I willing? Well you don't sign on the dotted line if you are not, do you?

Eight years, Skipy. Eight very crowded years, mostly PBI.

I'm genuinely bemused.

What exactly is the "it" we're going to get over?

How exactly will we know when it's "over"?

The rhetoric reminds me of other rhetoric, such as "The war to end all wars" and "The mother of all wars".

Did I say rhetoric? think I meant bullshit.

I can sort of see what you are on about, skipy. Lets not end up with another Iraq or Afganistan. Maybe we do just need that quick strike but I would be a bit wary myself.

The song skipy is refering to is Ian Walker's 'The Greatest Thrill" btw. An absolute craker, referred to in this thread.

Cheers

Skipy, change your name to Donuel and we will all understand why you think the sky is falling.

I don't believe for one single solitary moment that skipy served anywhere, but my father actually did defend his(?) right to make a complete asrehole of him(?)self, so let him(?) fill his boots.

Sorry to dissapiont, but I did "serve" 26 years, easy way to check:-
Google "luqa remembered" go to photo, scroll down & you will see pictures of me serving with the Nimrod fleet in Malta mid 70s. Check out those knees! Oh! & the tash. Then check out www.folkforms.org & go to committee tab! That was not fancy dress!

Dang it, Fooles..making blanket statements like that do nothing for your rep. Some Yanks have enough "English" blood in them, as if that's necessary, to *get* irony! Oops, there goes another wise all-knowing one.

skipy...just think of all the new crop of brassieres you might be able to find in foreign countries whilst serving! Exotic sales on ebay!
