Old tunes revisited

I like to resurrect old tunes that are rarely played that were once popular, or formed part of an old repertoire.
I wonder if you would like to join me and post a few.
Here is "Oats and Beans"

Great tune Al.

Strictly speaking it's Hey For The Life of a Soldier, a song from Thomas Simpson Cooke's operatic story Frederick The Great. The Oats and Beans title comes from just one part of it that was used for the children's street game or maybe it was a skipping rhyme. Tim Hart and Maddy Prior recorded it years ago.

At our Monday night session we dredge up a few rarely played once popular tunes each week as broken memory circuits snap back into place.

Sadly I don't own a video camera so I can't join in the YouTube game.

Dashing White Sergeant.

Popular to the point of tedium many years ago; whereas I've started it a couple of times recently and people have looked at me as if I'd unearthed something unheard-of.

Whereas Oats and Beans is actually reasonably common round this neck of the woods, I was playing it in a session just the other day ...

Well done, Al - you old devil.

Here's one that was written in 1931 and was a #4 hit for The Temperance Seven in the UK in 1961. Probably unplayed since then...

Thanks John for the info.
sfmans, how about posting Dashing White Sergeant for us to hear.
Thanks Will (life in the old dog yet) and for Pasadena I remember it well.
Just been looking at Elsey's Waltz now that's one I havn't played in forty years.

"The Dashing White Sergeant", coincidentally, is on the Old Swan Band's latest CD - "Swan For The Money" - and I was playing it at a dance only a fortnight ago.

Tried to record DWS last night and have got a spectacular amount of distortion on my setup - sounded more like this YouTube clip of playing Hendrix on the whistle ...
