Strictly speaking it's Hey For The Life of a Soldier, a song from Thomas Simpson Cooke's operatic story Frederick The Great. The Oats and Beans title comes from just one part of it that was used for the children's street game or maybe it was a skipping rhyme. Tim Hart and Maddy Prior recorded it years ago. At our Monday night session we dredge up a few rarely played once popular tunes each week as broken memory circuits snap back into place. Sadly I don't own a video camera so I can't join in the YouTube game. |
