25 Mar 11 - 02:03 PM (#3121431) Subject: RE: Obit: Tony Green Dunstable UK From: Herga Kitty Very sorry to hear this - I've known Tony since Tim Brooks started the Puddleduck Ceilidh Band composed of colleagues from work (including my ex, John Vernon) at Marconi Space & Defence, Stanmore, in 1974. Their early gigs included Brunel University in Uxbridge and Imperial College in Kensington... Tony was a lovely bloke, and my thoughts are with Denise. Kitty |

25 Mar 11 - 02:30 PM (#3121447) Subject: RE: Obit: Tony Green Dunstable UK From: Bob TB This is, indeed, sad news. Never a fully fledged folkie Tony played bass guitar in a number of ceilidh bands and was always a staunch supported of the Herga Mummers; he rarely missing a Boxing Day tour. I downed many a pint of London Pride with Tony at a regular Tuesday sessions at the Castle in Harrow in the '70s. He was a good friend and a really nice chap. The quiet one in Puddleduck! I posted a few pictures of him on the Herga Folk Club FB group. RIP. Bob |
25 Mar 11 - 06:56 PM (#3121613) Subject: RE: Obit: Tony Green Dunstable UK From: Mick Pearce (MCP) I'm very sad to hear this. In days long gone I have played in front of his bass (including some of the non-folk tunes for Herga birthday meetings), but in later years I usually only saw him at the Herga Mummers Boxing day tours and after I left London not at all. He was always good company when we did meet and I used to look forward to seeing him on Boxing days. My sympathies are with Denise. Mick |

12 Apr 11 - 11:37 AM (#3133749) Subject: RE: Obit: Tony Green Dunstable UK From: Herga Kitty It was a very moving service, with beautifully chosen hymns and readings and very personal tributes from the Rev Penny Draper and from council colleagues. Tony's cornet playing was mentioned, and so was the green Citroen 2CV he owned when he first met Denise (and in which I travelled to Puddleduck gigs with him when John and Bob had gone ahead in Bob's Transit van to set up the PA rig). The Puddleduck / Happenstance row in the church comprised myself, Tim and Lesley Brooks, Simon Weston, Bob Hawkes and Alan and Pat Simpson. The church was packed, with many more people than could have been accommodated at the committal at West Herts crematorium, so the Puddleduck / Happenstance contingent retired to the Priory cafe with Cllr Mike Gibson afterwards for coffee. But it was a lovely touch that the music shown on the order of service booklet for the committal included Toujours voir le côté lumineux de la vie... RIP Tony... Kitty |
