26 Mar 11 - 12:40 PM (#3122029) Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday, Jame Tiberius Kirk!! From: Little Hawk The original Kirk was James Talmadge Kirk. In a short time they realized that just wasn't a glorious enough middle name for a man like Jim, so they changed it to "Tiberius". And Tiberius it is! What a guy, eh? It's good to know that Jim will return in the 23rd Century to once again leap into the breach and provide inspiration and leadership for a suffering humanity. |

26 Mar 11 - 12:48 PM (#3122034) Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday, Jame Tiberius Kirk!! From: Bee-dubya-ell Jame is the singular. James is the plural. That's not how it is nowadays, but it will be true long before Captain Kirk's birth in 2233. Over the next 200 years, there will be a gradual dropping of final "s" sounds to eliminate any confusion over number distinctions. "Cheese" will become "chee", "nose" will become "no", and "James" will become "Jame". |

From: GUEST,Grishka How comforting that at least the extraterrestrials speak a moderate well-articulated Midwestern American English, and their planets have breathable air through which you can walk upright in your pyjamas. And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space, |
