Last year I created a little Observer Book of Morris and other Folk Dance to aid my Morris spotting. I now want to donate the idea and document to festivals, so they can badge it and sell to raise funds for future festivals. It is a wee little thing, can be printed as A5 or A6. Includes some brief definitions of a few different types of dance. It is modeled humorously on bird watching guide and each information entry page (right) is preceded by a plank page (left) for photo or sketch. I hope some festivals will take up this offer and that they are successful selling it. It is my hope, that parents will buy them for their kids, and that more interest in trad dance and music will be generated. So please post contact details below of any festival organisers who may be interested in receiving the document ready to be badged and printed. No charge. I don't even want it to bear my name. |

Towersey, Warwick and Chippenham and Shrewsbury are major weekend festivals that feature lots of dance. Also look out for events like the Thaxted Ring meeting and Whittlesea Straw Bear which are almost entirely about dance. |

I like the idea but I can't help thinking that it will need a lot of work for it to be anywhere near complete, if not when it appears you will, understandably, find people complaining "what about our side?" Anything that builds the interest must be a good thing. You wouldn't expect to have EVERY team included, maybe every brand of Morris (each festival could personalise with photos of the teams appearing at their festival, in each category) |

Upton on Severn have a lot of morris teams and Warwick have a lot of teams too. Some teams (my own - Sheffield City Morris for example) do Cotswold but mostly invented dances - in the style of....... We also wear green trousers which makes us unique as far as I am aware and suggests our inclusion on the grounds of colourfulness! |

This book has pages you complete with info about the dancers you see, kind of like bird watching. Maybe Flora's mention is more what I have created. An I Spy book. The thing is, I am NOT looking to make any money or even get credit for the idea. I just hoped my idea would be useful money spinner for festivals and interesting to the audience of said festivals. Having said that the project of making an Observer book in my retirement. Thank you all for the info. |

The title (the Observer Book) is problematic. Too late for this year's festival but he will pass my idea on to Medway Council for next year. I will tell him they are welcome to change whatever they like or to just use the idea and design their own. So that maybe one win, already. Wonder if I can create a phone app for this? Really easy to take pics and videos as you enter your information. |
