Nah, the first folkie in space was Steve Goodman when the chorus to his 'City Of New Orleans' was played as the capsule came around into the light.

Tom Dundee used the first folkie in space was Jim Post because "if he was out there any further, he'd be back."

My favourite was always My Field, Oh My Field (Polushko Pole) - I remember it being played by a brass band at the Bedlington Miners' Gala when I was a kid. Not sure if this counts as folk music, but the RAC (Red Army Choir) use accordions on it, so I suppose it must be...

I know lot's of folk in space! As soon as I sound the concertina for the begining of a Morris dance it usualy clears plenty of...

The Canadian millionaire, Guy Laliberté, who paid for a trip into space last year, was a keen folkie in his youth - he was at the first Pontardawe Festival - but there's no record of him playing anything while up there.
