21 Apr 11 - 07:48 AM (#3139600) Subject: BS: ChanteyLass Surgery update From: maeve Good news from ChanteyLass, with her permission to post it here: ***************************** "I'm home! I survived surgery! Only 1 of 4 parathyroid lobes had to be removed. My voice is a little hoarse but better than it was after surgery. It will be a few days until I can drive, but already I have more neck mobility than I expected. Feel free to spread the word. Thank you for your prayers and emotional support." (ChanteyLass) ***************************** May your recovery be complete! Best wishes from Maeve. |

I was treated well by the staff at Rhode Island Hospital, but I am glad there were no complications and that my stay there was only one night as planned. |

22 Apr 11 - 12:02 AM (#3140100) Subject: RE: BS: ChanteyLass Surgery update From: ChanteyLass Because I can't drive for a few days, I played with my modem and finally figured out what the problem was: a loose wire not connecting the modem to the computer but connecting the modem to something (?) that hooks up to a whole different bunch of wires. I don't have to go to a wifi hotspot or use my phone to post! Good thing, because there's no wifi within walking distance. Thanks for all the positive comments! Charley, I am planning to go to the Sea Music Festival. Last year instead of commuting from home I stayed in Groton but decided that this year I would stay in Mystic. Now I'm afraid the rooms I can afford there will be booked. I didn't want to book before I knew how the surgery would turn out. I'd better look for something soon. This afternoon I walked about a quarter of a mile--four times around the circle of condos where I live. In the evening I walked to the neighborhood Chinese restaurant to meet a friend for dinner. She offered me a ride home, but I said I needed the exercise. Tomorrow I plan to do more, and by next week I should be back at the Y doing some of the easier exercise classes. I can't believe how quickly I am recovering. Having followed some of the BS threads, I know how fortunate I am. |

I walked even farther today, perhaps a half-mile or more. Tomorrow I'll try driving to the market so I'll have something to bring to an Easter potluck and to the laundromat so I'll have clean clothes to wear! |

05 May 11 - 10:02 PM (#3148953) Subject: RE: BS: ChanteyLass Surgery update From: ChanteyLass I already posted this on the Mudcat Recovery Ward Thread, but . . . I had my post-op exam with the surgeon today. He says the pathology lab work showed no cancer, my incision is healing nicely, and I can resume my regular exercise classes in addition to the senior exercise classes I had already returned too. There is still a little swelling around the scars, but he said that will go down gradually. My endocrinologist will help me adjust my calcium intake to make sure my bones improve. |

06 May 11 - 11:09 PM (#3149572) Subject: RE: BS: ChanteyLass Surgery update From: ChanteyLass Today I saw the endocrinologist who will be monitoring the calcium in my blood. I had a blood draw at his office today. Yesterday the surgeon was going to have it done in his office, but I told him the endocrinologist would want to do it today, so the surgeon relented. I'm sure the endocrinologist will let me know if I need to adjust my calcium intake. I'll see him again in three months unless there is a problem in the meantime. The endocrinologist examined my scar and reviewed the pathology report and seemed satisfied. I've been playing my sea music CDs and might go to Mystic tomorrow. My son plans to take his family, and if I go he can get in free because I have a Bring a Guest membership. |
