In Maine we have Gov. Paul LePage, who is also good at putting his foot in his mouth when he tries to focus on one of these issues. Most recently he had a labor mural removed from the Maine Department of Labor, because one of his business friends considered it biased. Here's a song inspired by our Governor: Tune: traditional revival "Give Me that Old Time Religion" New words composed by Charlie Ipcar, 4/21/2011 inspired by Gov. Paul LePage of Maine That Old Capitalist System Chorus, Now, give me that old capitalist system, That good old capitalist system; Give me that old capitalist system, It's good enough for me! We'll, it's good for child labor. Good for child labor; It's good for child labor, And it's good enough for me! (CHO) Now, drain that old vernal pool, Drain that old vernal pool; It'll make a nice cesspool, And it's good enough for me! (CHO) It's good for racial discrimination, Good for old racial discrimination; It's good for racial discrimination, And it's good enough for me! (CHO) Now it's good for busting unions, Great for busting unions; It's awesome for busting unions, And it's good enough for me! (CHO) It's good for the creative economy, Good for the creative economy; It's good for the creative economy, If they do what I decree! (CHO) Maybe I can recruit a few people to sing the chorus in harmony with me in the Hall of Flags at the State Capitol. Charley Noble |

Thing is, I don't think what Scott Walker, Rich Schneider (sp?), Chris Christie, et al. are doing is really the essence of "capitalism." "Fascism" (or "corporatism," "oligarchy") is more like it. |

29 Apr 11 - 07:45 AM (#3144637) Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Give Me That Old Capitalist System From: Charley Noble Well , two more verses are needed for this song. Two of Maine Gov. LePage's chief appointments were forced to resign yesterday. One was Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection in violation of State and Federal rules that prohibit someone assuming that office who worked for a company which in the last year received more than 10% of its income from environmental licensing consulting, and Daryl Brown's consulting firm specialized in that kind of work. But he was shifted over to the State Planning Office as a consolation. Now the Governor is trying to get the rule repealed. The other was his Commissioner for Economic & Community Development who in a recent speech in our huge rural northern County of Aroostook proclaimed to the Caribou Chamber of Commerce that it's economic problems wouldn't be resolved until "they got off the reservation and got to work," affirmative action was repealed, and parents provided their school children "their own breakfast." Philip Congdon was summarily dismissed by the Governor the next day, as only our Governor can make such outrageous statements. Congdon is a former executive with Texas Instruments and never claimed to know much about Economic & Community Development but he proved to be a quick study! But it was his concept of "the trickle down economy" which really pissed some of us off. You just can't make this stuff up as fast as it's happening in real time! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
