Tech: Info About 60s Folk Music Radio Show

Tried to do several internet searches about this, but to no avail. I'm looking for information about what I seem to remember as a mid ('63-maybe '64) 60's folk music radio show. It may have been on Sunday night out of WLS in Chicago, but not certain. On the show, they played the top 3-5 most requested (usually contemporary) Folk Music tunes of the day, often recordings by artists such as Tom Paxton, Judy Collins, and many others, etc. As I say, I believe it was on Sunday nights about 9pm Central time, but might have the day and time in error, and it perhaps was on WLS radio, though I could be wrong about that too.

It was on that show that I first heard songs such as "Ramblin' Boy," "Hey Nellie Nellie," etc., popular folk tunes of the day. It may have been a "pre-Beatles" show, at the height of the 60's Folk Music era and before the Beatles and rock displaced the folk music of the day.

Anybody here old enough to remember that show and any details about the show?

I don't remember anything on WLS other than top 40. WFMT had, and still has, The Midnight Special. It is on Saturday nights. Now it starts at 9, but then it would have been on after the 10 pm news cast. There may have been a special show on WLS in the early '60's and I wouldn't have known about it, as I was in 2nd or 3rd grade at the time. But the folks would let us stay up late to hear the Midnight Special on Saturdays (a last corrupting influence).

Was that the same Midnight Special as the one that played in the early 60s at midnight on Saturday's on WBAI in NYC? Billy Faier was the host. All live music performed by a few invited guests and a lot of drop ins.

No, not the same one. The Chicago version was on Chicago's fine arts station and was started by Mike Nichols before he became a film director. It plays folk music, show tunes, comedy sketches and odds and ends. I started listening for the Bill Cosby routines and got hooked on the folk music. Rich Warren has hosted the show these past few years. Art Thieme could give you more background, if he checks in to this thread.
