NPR today: cajun, gospel, klezmer, blues

Subject: NPR today: cajun, gospel, klezmer, blues
From: Desert Dancer

It's a good day for music on the NPR web site today, at least for my tastes. Some of these are on blogs and won't be on the air:

Cajun String Bands: The Next Big Thing?, including mention of the upsurge and overlap with old-time string bands

You've Never Heard Robert Johnson's 'Complete Recordings'?!, from one of their young interns (apparently a full review of the boxed set will be coming on Weekend Edition)

A Nephew's Quest: Who Was Brother Claude Ely?, on "The Gospel Ranger" and the interchange between Pentacostal white gospel and early rock and roll

From Generation To Generation, Klezmer Lives On, on women in klezmer music

And, though not particularly folky, I loved the "tiny desk concert" by Booker T. Jones (solo), and today they have an interview with him: Booker T. Jones, Back to Memphis.

And then there's the Jazz dj who built a machine to make his own mashups that I had to send the link of to my son...

I'll quit now.
