The greatest Giant of them all. Probably the greatest all-around player in history. Also a nice guy.

Happy Birthday Willie Mays!

Well pdq, we disagree a lot but on this one you are absolutely correct! I can't think of a better all around player either and we are not alone.
Power, precision, speed, great fielding, durability, and a whole lot of smarts..........Willie Mays truly had it all. Ken Burns did a great job on Willie in the "Baseball" series on PBS.

No way man...Just no way. Willie in my eyes is no more than 24 and in his prime.
What a man. One of the greatest.
Thanks pdq for starting the thread.

He even had a great arm.

After he through out a few runners at second base from center field, nobody even tried to stretch a single into a double. That saved a lot of runs over the years.

He did exactly what was needed for the Giants to win. Barry Bonds did what was needed to put up big numbers for Barry Bonds.

Mays was a team player and still is, coming to the ballpark regularly and helping the new kids get it right.

I agree with you there, they don't make 'em like they used to -- these days it all seems to be about personal glory and ego.
