The Puritans Kinswinford Folk Club

Just wondered what happened to them and what they are doing today. I think I have the name correct.

In the late 60's/early 70's they used to run the folkclub at Kingswinford.

That was where I first heard Fiddlers Green written by John Conolly and the first time I saw golden hairlocks Martyn Wyndham Read and the late great Cyril Tawney.

I used to enjoy going to that folk club. I think the lead singers christian name was Ian and the lady behind the bar was called Doris.

Yes i know that, but I may have the name wrong. What I do know is that the Ian that is running it now is not the person(s) I am talking about. However thanks for being helpful and taking the time to post.

John Wadham played guitar and Banjo...I was taught by his wife Jane; they were instrumental in forging my love of traditional music.

They were residents at the Woodman, and I'm desperately trying to think of the names of the other two...,

Not to be picky but its Kingswinsford...

Baz, It is in actual fact The Woodman Folk Club, Kingswinford :-)

Did John have the beard, and was he the main singer? If it was, I always remember him saying comments about Doris behind the bar. :-)

Are they all still around?

Les

Ah Ok. I think I know which one John is.

The front man was I think called Ian. He didn't wear glasses and had a beard.

The guy who ran the club for many years died 5- or more years ago.

Can't find a link to History Section Baz.

However, Mick Harrington was who I was tring to think of. He had a beard in them days and he did a good job of singing Fiddlers Green and mentioning Doris from behind the bar.

Found Mick's history.

Pete Warhurst was also in the group, but theer was a third one. I am sure I used to go ther in the 1969/1970.

Some of what Mick says, does not seem to tally.

I remember a history on the website at about the time of the passing of the organiser. And Harrington rings a bell - but don't rely on that.

Last time I went it would be that organiser, and Karen (twelve fingers) Tweed was deputising for for someone (maybe Andy Cutting) with Chris Wood. Early 90's.

try e-mailing them from here
