Brian Peters, Tunbridge Wells, May 23rd

Hello all, I usually try not to do too much merciless self-promo on here, but I'm playing in a couple of weeks at The Beacon Folk Club in Tunbridge Wells and, as it's a venue that doesn't get listed in all the usual places, I'm giving it a plug. I've not been there for ages, but had very good time on my last visit.

The venue is nice too: The Beacon.

I'm expecting to see a few retired colonels and Disgusted Daily Telegraph readers, but normal people are welcome too.

I'll try and be there.

I go to the Beacon singarounds sometimes (alternating them with Tonbridge Folk club, High Brooms jam session and Seven Stars singarounds). There's a lot of competition locally on a Monday, I'm afraid!

No idea why John doesn't list his events more widely on the web. The Folk Diary is about the only place I see them, and occasionally in the Courier (local newspaper).

Wish it wasn't so far away...
A night listening to Brian is always a treat -- a great selection of songs with good arrangements and thoughtful introductions, as well as lots of fun! He generously shares his passion for the tradition (and songs from other genres) and engages with the audience throughout.
If I had my way, he would be compulsory listening for some of the younger (miserabilist) performers whose repertoire is quite restricted in type and- IMHO- whose connection with an audience is quite superficial.

(Started this post as a genuine regret about missing out on this gig but went off on a rant there -- if you hadn't noticed! Think I should probably start a new thread, if this hasn't already been discussed umpteen times?)

The Beacon is a delightful place and has some very good singers as regulars, especially the excellent Peter Collins. This will be a good night.
