Hi
I'm trying to find the lyrics to this song "I HAD A LITTLE GAL"sung by Merle HAGGARD on two live shows
1 - BONNAROO MANCHESTER TN June 14, 2009
2- 20th FINGERLAKES GRASSROOTS FESTIVAL OF MUSIC AND DANCE TRUMANSBURG NY July 22, 2010

The melody is the same as "THIS MORNIN' THIS EVENIN' SO SOON" but not the words
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you so much

There's a YouTube video here (click), if somebody has the time and the "ear" to transcribe it. It's tough to understand.
While it uses "this morning, this evenin', so soon" at the end of each verse, the tune is more like "Fishin' Blues" (You get a line and I'll get a pole, honey)

Joe
Thank you for replying
The YOUTUBE video you told about comes from the 20th Fingerlakes Grassroots Festival and words are very hard to understand.
Hope somebody will have time to hear and transcribe the words

Merle did a version of "I HAD A LITTLE MULE) in 1971 with Johnny GIMBLE
And another in 1977 in an album called "LEGENDARY PERFORMER" but the song was called "THIS MORNIN' THIS EVENIN' SO SOON"
SAme melody but different words

You told about "FISHIN' BLUES" but I know this song by the name of "THE CRAWFISH HOLE"

Bob Dylan
Tell Old Bill
Traditional

I tell old Bill when he gets home this morning,
I tell old Bill when he gets home this evening,
I tell old Bill when he gets home,
To leave them downtown women alone
This morning, this evening, so soon.

Now old Bill's wife she was baking bread this morning,
Now old Bill's wife she was baking bread this evening,
Now old Bill's wife she was baking bread
They came and told her Bill was dead
This morning, this evening, so soon.

Oh no, that can't be so, this morning,
Oh no, that can't be so, this evening,
Oh no, that can't be so
Bill only left for town half an hour ago
This morning, this evening, so soon.

They brought Bill home on a hurry-up wagon this morning,
They brought Bill home on a hurry-up wagon this evening,
They brought Bill home on a hurry-up wagon
His head was down and his feet were dragging
This morning, this evening, so soon.
