I've found the lyrics to the Eccles Wakes Song but can't find out if there's any music available to it. Does anyone know where I might find out about this ? Ta in advance ! |

It was for another celebration to do with Eccles but I can't remember what. PM me and I can put you in touch with him. Chris - Librarian at Walkden, may also have details as he has something to do with the Eccles 'do'. Cheers Dave |

Although I haven't been able to locate the dots anywhere you may have some better luck:-) If you haven't already been in touch it would be well worth your while getting hold of Gary and Vera who are a mine of information on canal songs. Good luck and let us all know when and where the event is. Cheers Dave |

14 May 11 - 04:54 AM (#3153844) Subject: RE: Eccles Wakes Song(s) From: Raggytash Sorry Elly we've been digressing, when and where are the celebrations, I'm originally from Eccles and was in the 28th Eccles/ 2nd Worsley Sea Scouts, the troop was founded by my late Father on 21st October 1951. Our headquarters were in the Old Oil Warehouse, now converted to housing, which is close to the Packet House, although I'm not sure it was called that when I was a lad. I would be interested to learn more. cheers Raggytash |
16 May 11 - 07:43 AM (#3155011) Subject: RE: Eccles Wakes Song(s) From: EllyMcC Main celebration is July 16th with the ' right royal regatta' ...... Reconstructing Queen Victoria's visit to the canal in 1851. There'll be things going on alal that weekend - and probably during the wek I think. There's info on Salford's website. Barton Theatre Co are involved a little in the 'official' bit at Worsley but we're mainly involved in Some street theatre revolving around Eccles Wakes in the 19th century. We'll be at the Waterside Pub/ restaurant off Parrin Lane Bridge in Winton - and also at the Monton Festival in early July and the Eccles Festival in September. I'd be interested in including any songs from the mid 19th century that might have been sung at the Wakes ...... And any local singers who might want to be involved - we're not in the main a singing group though we're always happy to have a good go at songs !! So if any one out there knows of any songs, or might even want to help us sing them, let me know EllyMcC |

I just had a thought and checked John Adams Village Music Project - But it wasn't there either :-( Ah well. DrG |

I'm wondering if Elsie Mullineux just 'owns' the image or the actual sheet music. She is, and her late husband was, very knowledgeable local historians. I'll contact her and see if she has the music. Thanks for the Gary and Vera link - I'll get in touch wth them. Thanks to you and to all the others on this forum who are being so helpful to me..... a mere newcomer E |
