Tribute to Frank Woerner

For many many years Frank Woerner has played a pivotal role in promoting, teaching, and continuing folk music in the NYC Area. On Friday, May 20, the Folk Music Society of NY (NY Pinewoods Folk Music Club) is holding a concert to celebrate and honor Frank's contribution. Frank will appear with the Richmond Tavernacle Choir. The Richmond Tavernacle Choir (Frank, Norm Pederson, Bob Conroy, Jan Christensen, David Kleiman, Alison Kelley, Heather Wood, Ken Schatz) performs annually at the restored tavern in Historic Richmondtown on Staten Island — hence the name. Expect plenty of rousing singalongs. At OSA Hall, 220 E 23rd St, suite 707, between 2nd and 3rd Ave, Manhattan. Pinewoods Members $10, general public $20, FREE to all fulltime students under age 23 and to all young people under 18 years of age. Info: 212-957-8386.

Frank Woerner has certainly been an inspiration for a generation or two of aspiring folk singers. I'd love to be there but I'll have to wait until the Mystic Sea Music Festival to buy him a round.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Frank not only loves the music, has a rousing and enthusiastic way of presenting a song; but he is a welcoming presence at song circles; always makes sure every person, even the shy ones , get a chance to share a song. Great guy, great singer.

I am so sorry that I won't be able to attend. Frank has been a friend and an inspiration and he deserves this tribute and more.

Well done FMSNY for celebrating a man who has given so much to traditional singing.

If you are coming to the tribute for Frank Woerner from out of town and need a place to stay, we at the Folk Music Society of NY (NY Pinewoods Folk Music Club) will try to find someone who can put you up for the night of May 20. Send an e-mail to publicity@folkmusicny.org.

Oh, alas, I have a previous commitment, otherwise I'd be sorely tempted to make the 200 mile trek.

Frank has always been an inspiration, a voice of encouragement, and a teacher of new generations - at the same time maintaining his own integrity and uniqueness. I've been proud to have been, and to continue to be his friend for more than 40 years.

The Sea Shantey Session of the Folk Music Society of NY has moved to Sailor's Snug Harbor where many of the songs we love were collected. This video starts with Frank Woerner singing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaGpLAMO8xQ

I too have known Frank a long time. I remember happy days singing with him at the Eagle Tavern, NY, in the sessions run so ably by Dan Milner. It's a bit too far away for me to make it to the tributet, will somebody please give him my regards. Have a great night.
