The Battlefield Band's version, found on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyFSszgqwig

I'm having a bit of trouble with the chords (especially on the chorus) and wondered if any of you all would be willing to give me some help.

Thanks so much.

I hear D, G, A and Bm. That should cover it.

Cheers,
Michael

Song was written by Iain Sinclair of Mirk, sung by his wife Margie of the amazingly dark treacle voice - -I have the vinyl - --

Are you sure about that? All versions I see say it's trad.

I thought it was traditional, too... could be wrong.

Definitely an Ian Sinclair song, as stated, sung by his wife Margie!
No question. Certain Irish singers have been informed of this fact!

IMHO it does not need accompaniment, the sang's the thing! Most singarounds I've heard it, it has been sung a cappella.
Not the only song - or tune -by far that has been passed off as trad, when the composer is known.

Here's a very instrumental version, from "The Transatlantic Sessions" series 4. Timing's slightly different from the version i know, but no bad, eh?

Ah, I like that version, Tattie. Different but really lovely. Thanks for linking it.

Kitty, I think that's a different "King's Shilling" than the one I was referencing...

----everyone should really try to hear the Mirk original, with the composer Iain on fiddle and Margie's wonderful voice singing - -- -

Yes, it has a very specific rhythm, and many people who have covered it have changed it in various ways. I prefer the original.
