25 May 11 - 08:01 PM (#3160586) Subject: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: michaelr Barrie asked me to start a new thread on this project as the previous one is getting a bit long. To recap, we are creating a 5-CD set titled "This Is Us" plus an additional CD of seasonal music called "Until the Dark Time Ends". All the music (about 120+ songs and tunes in all) was recorded and donated by Catters. The project is proceeding well, although I must urge the coordinating mudelves to push for completion of their information-gathering. We don't want to miss the deadline for the Getaway! My next post to this thread will contain a link to a poster I've created which will give you a first look at the CD covers. Cheers, Michael |
25 May 11 - 08:27 PM (#3160590) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Janie I think I need to hear from the mudelf dealing with liner notes regarding the song I submitted. I think I need to make a couple of corrections. And let me just reiterate kudos to Barrie and all the mudelves who are bringing this to fruition. Great Title! |
25 May 11 - 09:03 PM (#3160599) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Amos Three cheers for Barrie for his heroic endeavours! (Hope I spelled that appropriately!) Start saving up now so we can Flood Dick with orders when the release occurs and swell the coffers of the Cat!! A |

26 May 11 - 01:02 AM (#3160650) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: michaelr Janie - PM bradfordian with the name of your song and whatever info you need to convey. Dick - the CDs in the 'This Is Us' series are titled Earth, Sky, Stone, Water, and Wood. The "seaonal" CD is titled 'Until the Dark Time Ends', but my files will call it Snow for short. |

I'm hoping the mudelves can complete the pdfs by end June (HINT!!) so I can burn the masters and get them to Dick for replicating. And Michael needs the verified song/performer details so he can complete the artwork. If I can quote from a couple of the team members, "WOW, this IS exciting" And don't forget, start saving up now! bradfordian |

So happy that bradfordian took on this project and is managing it so well, and so honored to be a part of it. I just have one niggling question that may not be relevant: Is "This Is Us" grammatically correct? Does it matter? |
26 May 11 - 10:45 AM (#3160843) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Bill D It maybe should oughta be "This AM us"...or maybe "These do be us"....but whadda I know? |

26 May 11 - 11:16 AM (#3160859) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Cool Beans The important thing is, does it convey the intended message? "This Is Us" does the job. Sometimes the grammatically correct sounds worse. "This Is We?" "We Are This?" Ecch. I like "This Is Who We Are" but "This Is Us" is just fine with me. |
26 May 11 - 11:19 AM (#3160860) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Cool Beans The covers look great. Bravo! |

26 May 11 - 02:09 PM (#3160942) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: ClaireBear Beautiful covers, Michael. You do great work, as I have reason to know! Anyone who doesn't like "THIS IS US" can take a felt pen and change the "U" to a "B" and then put a red circle/bar sinister over that word, thereby changing the name to "THIS IS NOT BS." That may make grammarians happy... surely "IT IS WE" would make nobody happy! |
26 May 11 - 02:15 PM (#3160950) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: katlaughing With permission from bradfordian and Michael, I would suggest it is not too early to print out and send, or email a copy, of the poster to one's local npr/indie radio stations with a short blurb about oneself and one's contribution to give it a local touch. The more press the better and it doesn't cost a cent, save for a stamp, to do so. |

26 May 11 - 05:07 PM (#3161022) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Artful Codger Ahem, per modern usage, "this is us" or "it's me" is correct--a special grammar construction--, and in fact it's preferred over "this is we" (or "It is I"), which strikes everyone but reactionary pedants as unnatural. Alternatively: "← Us" |

26 May 11 - 06:31 PM (#3161064) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Genie Martin, I saw your suggestion of "Here We Are!" just as I was about to post it myself. I like it. (I agree that "This is we," while gramatically correct, sounds stiff. 27 May 11 - 03:25 PM (#3161433) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Genie Songbob, you just raised a really good question - or idea. Would it be possible to make the CDs available as paid downloads via iTunes, at a cost slightly lower than the physical CDs? At least that might save the shipping costs? The CD covers and the PDF files could be included as digital booklets. Genie |

27 May 11 - 04:57 PM (#3161460) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: bradfordian I'm looking at making the s&h costs inclusive in the CD price -- which I believe is the case with the Blue Plate Specials(BPS). I shall get prices up soon. YOU GOT SIX MONTHS TO SAVE UP. BORROW THE KIDS PIGGY BANKS --YOU KNOW THEY'VE OUTGROWN THEM NOW-- AND START BUNKERING!!!! There will be a discount for buying the set at one go. With regard to Genie's comment, one of the reasons I progressed this project now, was that (bearing in mind the 9 year gap between this set and the BPS) I thought this is probably going to be the last opportunity to do CDs before they go out of fashion. To me there is a certain je ne sais quoi about having tangible media. bradfordian |
27 May 11 - 05:17 PM (#3161465) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: GUEST,999 Ain`t that the truth. You all have done a complicated job and made it look simple. Good work. I`m sure Amos would agree with that in a flash. BM |

28 May 11 - 02:52 AM (#3161637) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Genie Bradfordian, I agree that there's no real substitute for a physical CD (or vinyl album, for that matter). But there's also an important place for music that's stored in much more compact ways, e.g., on a hard drive or online or on a flash drive or iPod. As small as CDs are, they still take up space, and it's much easier to take several hundred (orseveral thousand) songs with you on your iPod when you travel than it is to take a comparable number in any "hard copy" form. I would never suggest not having the CDs & "jewel cases" - and I hope CDs never really go away, just as vinyl hasn't - but I still like the option of buying these "albums" as digital downloads too. |
28 May 11 - 02:54 AM (#3161638) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Genie BTW, I've already PM'd Janie that I am the elf for "Earth," which is the CD her song is on. No need to bother Barrie. |

31 May 11 - 06:59 PM (#3163382) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: bobad I'm baffled by the objections to selling the CDs by download. This is just another way to get music out to consumers and more environmentally friendly to boot. I don't get it. |

03 Jun 11 - 09:30 AM (#3164689) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: bradfordian Here is the PROPOSED prices for the Mudcat CDs. I will take your comments before confirming the prices. I want to keep prices rounded rather than matching exchange rates. That helps to keep it simple, as does IMO including shipping costs. The prices reflect that the project has NOT been done in a professional studio, that all tracks have been donated, that there may be a little variability in quality (because I wanted to be inclusive). I'm also bearing in mind the economic climate AND the fact that Mudcat is doing fair from those adverts which you are all clicking away at! I would prefer to sell bundles but have been advised that single CDs should be available at the same time as the bundles (I was going to hold back for a few months, but have relented on that) 5 Mudcat CDs PLUS the seasonal CD $60, £35, 45Euros TO INCLUDE shipping, Any 1 CD $15, £9, 12Euros TO INCLUDE shipping. Please let me have your feedback here or by PM/e-mail (see the poster for my addy) Then I will either confirm or modify those prices. bradfordian |
03 Jun 11 - 10:51 AM (#3164718) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Sandra in Sydney $10US each or $60US for the set sounds good to me I assume you will send the CDs & inserts without jewel cases to cut down on postage to far-flung paces like the antipodes? 03 Jun 11 - 03:29 PM (#3164813) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Genie Leadfingers, I can't speak definitively, but I know there has been some juggling going on in order to fit as many songs as possible on each CD, so it may be too early for Barrie or Michael to post the tracklists yet. I know of a few songs that have 'migrated' from one of the CDs to another. My guess is that the tracklists will be made public as soon as the CDs are 'in the can', so to speak. But I'm not the horse's mouth in this case. (I hope I'm not some other part of the horse, either.) Genie |

03 Jun 11 - 09:30 PM (#3164954) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: GUEST,999 Cool. I'd rethink the issue of postage. Even without jewel cases it will eat into the profits for Mudcat. Perhaps gi'e it another look. |
03 Jun 11 - 10:41 PM (#3164982) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Janie What Bruce said. If postage and handling are included, the prices may need to be a bit higher, at least for single CD orders. 04 Jun 11 - 03:57 AM (#3165048) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Sandra in Sydney good idea sandra |
04 Jun 11 - 04:23 AM (#3165058) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: bradfordian Sandra, I did propose $15 for a single CD with shipping. People ordering sets PLUS extras will get a discount on the extras when included in a single order. I'm hoping that a fair bundle price will encourage people to go for that option. Dick has been consulted. There's no need to be greedy, Mudcat will do extremly handsomely even after production and shipping costs. Obviously, the lower we can keep the price, the more people will buy (whole sets hopefully. bradfordian |
04 Jun 11 - 09:07 AM (#3165146) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: GUEST,999 Cool. Dick certainly knows what he`s about in that department. |
04 Jun 11 - 11:10 AM (#3165189) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: katlaughing Those are absolutely fair prices, imo, esp. generous in including postage and handling. What about a discount if we buy multiples (at least 6) of the same one? I am thinking Christmas presents for family and friends. I, too, hope there will be no jewel cases. I'll buy one set, plus I am sure we'll want one or two extras of the one my grandson is on, "Sky" is it? Thanks, again! |

18 Jun 11 - 05:30 AM (#3172231) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: bradfordian There will be discounts for "bulk" orders .....Anything to get your money. ;~) If you are really desperate to part with your money, I guess I need to start to set that facility up. For those who want to buy in US dollars, Dick Greenhaus will handle that. I will handle the ones who want to pay in UK pounds and Euros. 18 Jun 11 - 06:11 AM (#3172244) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Leadfingers I will definately be in for a set plus at least one extra seasonal for the guy who wrote 'my' song ! |
18 Jun 11 - 06:38 AM (#3172256) Subject: RE: New Mudcat CD set 'THIS IS US' From: Genie When Amos put together the first set of Mudcat CDs (the Blueplate Specials), I bought one complete set and or or 5 more of the one I had a song on. IIRC, Dick let me purchase all 9 or 10 of them for $12 apiece. That makes sense to me, since it does encourage buying in bulk, or "multiple copies," no matter which assemblage of CDs you select. |

After this stage, we will create the masters and get them replicated. Over the next few days, I hope to contact all the contributors by email and/or PM to give us a final verification on lyrics and "liner" notes so that we can finalise and burn the pdfs onto the CDs BY THE END OF JULY; So:- ALL MUDCAT CD (& SEASONAL CD) CONTRIBUTORS, PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAILS AND PMs OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS bradfordian PS. Thank you for your co-operation. I have NOT yet been able to contact the following by email (As you may know, PMs are down at the moment) Olddude, Marilynio, alanabit, Jed Marum, It would be very helpful If these people could check the 2011 Mudcat CDs Lyrics thread and post that all is good or request a change bradfordian |

Just wondering out loud here: Any chance that the "launch" at Getaway could be accompanied by stocks of actual CDs to sell there, to eliminate "shipping and handling" charges or at least abate some of them? |
