My hometown. When I saw the Newsweek report, I was pretty sure that they had never visited the town. It is a pearl of a place. Vibrant cultural community with theater, music and the arts all over. We have a strong and diverse business community, and a very involved volunteer community. Our downtown is alive with restaurant and entertainment venues. Up on Michigan St. Hill is in of this country's leading medical miles, with brand new heart hospital, children's hospital, and the Van Andel Institute for cancer research. But what makes the place special is it's people and that is what you see in the video. It was all done in one take and was not edited. Fantastic!

All the best,

Mick

yep--makes me want to go there!
I see a wonderful community,
and a well-planned, multi-faceted
video...what a concept!
thousands of people co-operated to
create this video...and so many
were represented in this...even
the mayor..one take? oh my!
what genius! the preparations
must have been monumental..
the co-operation was incredible!!

marching bands, fire engines, helicopters...

I think the thread title needs to be changed so that others will check this out...how about Grand Rapids Michigan Flash Mob or some other wording that might encourage folks to open it and check it out?

Thanks for posting. I hadn't seen the video. I enjoyed it and was impressed by the amount of planning involved. I shared it on Facebook.

I'd visited Grand Rapids often when I was resident in Michigan, and most recently a few years ago when I was there for a musical reunion. I was always impressed with the creative energy demonstrated there.

I can't say the same about the little town of Shaftsburg, but that another story, and the subject of an unofficial state song.

Shaftsburg as in I Got Shafted In..., mayhap?

Gosh, I've joined in on the chorus of that song (many years ago) without knowing who actually wrote it... well done you!

YY-

The very song. But the credit must be shared with my old friend Maxine Parshall (who lives now in the Detroit area).

Then well done to you both!
Where in "the Detroit area" does she live now (if that's not prying)?
And is she aware of the Paint Creek Folklore Society?
I suspect she would like them very much, and vice-versa (especially since PCFS is where I first heard that song).

Ah, there is a "Sheffield" Michigan. All becomes clear.

I wonder "what's cooking" there?
