09 Jun 11 - 08:26 AM (#3167585) Subject: RE: Best shanty and sea songs singers now? From: Dave Hanson All the instruments used by The Boat Band just interfere with the song and are extremely irritating, it just seems to be a case of ' we've got the instruments, so we'll jolly well use them, ' shanty's don't need musical instruments. 09 Jun 11 - 08:45 AM (#3167604) Subject: RE: Best shanty and sea songs singers now? From: Richard from Liverpool I definitely like Gibb Sahib's approach, definitely shanties and sea songs without the bullshit. I'd love to see him as a performer at some of these shanty festivals. I'm not sure how what he does would translate from the youtube video into a live performance, I can imagine him grabbing audience members to get them to join in and stuff (in the same way as he's done with friends and family on his youtube videos). |
