11 Jun 11 - 07:40 AM (#3168853) Subject: BS: Sex Therapy From: GUEST,Shimrod I have just read that a prominent celeb sportsman is to undergo something called 'sex therapy' because he has been experiencing too much willy action recently. Does anyone know what 'sex therapy' involves? I ask purely for reasons of prurient curiousity and because I'm never likely to find out for real! |

He could always come to Canada. Prostitution is legal here. Not common body houses tho. |

12 Jun 11 - 01:09 AM (#3169145) Subject: RE: BS: Sex Therapy From: Joe Offer I thought "sex therapy" had something to do with increasing your sexual activity, not curtailing it. I've sometimes wondered how it happened. I got the impression that some sex therapists slept with the client and gave first-hand instructions.... What techniques did Masters & Johnson employ? I dunno. -Joe- |

12 Jun 11 - 02:44 AM (#3169166) Subject: RE: BS: Sex Therapy From: Joe Offer It's poetic, Ebbie, not euphemistic...but I do have some question whether it's ethical for a practitioner to have sex with a client for the purpose of giving sex instruction. |

12 Jun 11 - 05:33 AM (#3169214) Subject: RE: BS: Sex Therapy From: autolycus As I understand it, sex therapists endeavour to help clients deal with sexual problems,e.g.poor libido, and with non-sexual problems, e.g. stress, that have a sexual aspect. I would go further and say that vast numbers of people in the U.K. and the U.S. have 'stuff' [technical term :-)] about and around sex. Also, the sex drive is fundamental in life, and to have problems about it, is therefore of great importance. It's not for nothing that Freud is one of the towering figures of the last 150 years. He hit on one of the basics of life - sex. Therapists seem to me necessary if life is to improve in this respect because people with sexual difficulties were brought up by people with sexual difficulties who were br....etc. |

I wasn't.. my mum and dad were progressive relaxed lefty working class council-estate radicals back in them dark ages.. ie copies of Playboy and Mayfair magazine rolled up in my xmas stocking when I was 13.. and mum casually informing me "oral sex can be really nice" when I was off out with a bottle of 'natch' cider tucked under my arm to see my mates for a girls 15'th birthday party.. oh and thanks mum for the Anaïs Nin books when I left home to be a student... .. maybe just a bit embarrassing in front of my schoolmates sometimes... but my girlfriends never complained.. |

12 Jun 11 - 10:16 AM (#3169310) Subject: RE: BS: Sex Therapy From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker thinking about it now, what's so interesting is my mum in her early 20's was genuinely innocent and completely unaware of the mechanics of 'intercourse' right up until mere days before her 'wedding night'. that was about 1950... Someone in the family tried to prepare her at the last minute and discretely handed her a 'medical' illustrated text book on such matters.. .. she read a few pages before completely freaking out in terror and almost calling off the marriage.. !!!! Obviously she got calmed down sufficently, and then spent a good 7 or 8 years of newly married life gradually then eagerly practicing & learning with my dad before 1st born me eventually arrived in the late 50's.. |

12 Jun 11 - 03:05 PM (#3169429) Subject: RE: BS: Sex Therapy From: Stilly River Sage Sex therapy and treatment for sexual addiction are obviously two radically different things. And I would hazard a guess that the problems that one addresses in sex therapy are sexual, while the problems one addresses in sexual addiction therapy are psychologically and socially oriented. 12 Jun 11 - 03:13 PM (#3169433) Subject: RE: BS: Sex Therapy From: Stringsinger Prostitutes are not sex therapists, reinforcing negative attitudes in men about women, using a form of extortion as a means of clipping "johns", creating emotional problems in themselves by inducing a disassociation pattern in their brains, violating intimacy and love in a sex relationship. (This should stir up some discussion.) A sex therapist is one who has a healing approach to attitudes that promote sexual dysfunction such as prurient behavior, Weinergate stuff, sexual deviation, (not homosexuality here which can be nurturing for some), child porn, and maso-sado abuse. |

It really isn't that simple, since "morality" can override it all, if properly misdirected and sufficiently ingrained. (according to a couple of noted therapists?) John |
